Sunrise to Sunset: A Lovely Day at Turpin Meadow Ranch

If you’ve never been up to Turpin, find the time to take the hour drive. To put it in perspective: their staff have to drive an hour to town just to purchase groceries. You just might be rewarded with the best day of the winter at Turpin Meadow Ranch: abundant snow, perfectly groomed, sunny blue sky, big Téton views. One of the many beauties of TMR is that there are flat trails and rolling hills- both scenic, good workouts, wide skate and new this year… double classic tracks!

The ranch is open to the public daily until March 13 for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and fatbiking. They have all the gear to rent if you need, and instructors on staff happy to help you refine your skills or take you on a tour to share what makes this place so magical. After you work up an appetite on the trails stop in the lodge for some delicious home made food and/or apres beverages. Dogs are allowed (though it is required they be leashed in parking lots and around the cabin and lodge areas). If you’ve got the time, consider an overnight stay! Many of the weekends are already booked up, but if you’ve got an open weeknight give them a call and see if you can get a cabin.

If you decide to check it out for yourself, please sign waivers and pay for trail passes online ahead of your visit. Call the front office (307) 543-2000 for lodging, dining reservations, booking equipment rentals and Nordic adventures (lessons and tours).

Best of Fat Bike Fun

Fat biking is a super fun way to explore snow-covered winter trails and pathways, especially when the snow is firm and packed (like it will be this week!). Did you know there are over 40 fat bike friendly trails in Jackson Hole and Teton Valley? That means there are so many opportunities to get to and explore, so get out there and have a good time!

On the subject of Fat Biking, there is a raffle going on to support Friends of Pathways grooming of the Cache Creek Fat Bike Trails. Thanks to some very generous local businesses and JH Nordic , donors to this campaign will be entered into a raffle for awesome prizes, including:

· An overnight stay for 2 people at Turpin Meadows Ranch  including two trail passes and Nordic ski, snow shoe or fat bike rentals
· A pair of Rossignol Delta Sport skate skis with bindings from Skinny Skis
· A half day XC ski or snowshoe tour for 2 in Grand Teton National Park with JH Ecotour Adventures
· A half day fat bike tour for 2 with Teton Mountain Bike Tours
· A half day XC ski or snowshoe tour for 2 in Grand Teton National Park with Hole Hiking Experience

Weather 180!

After days of nearly continuous snow, the forecast has taken a big change with nothing but blue skies in the forecast; even though this morning’s temps are a bit on the chilly side, if the forecast holds true, conditions should be relatively balmy for January.  While powder hounds might be longing, it should be some nice Nordic skiing in the days ahead.

One thing we want to mention today is that apparently there have been a few people crossing out of our ski area onto some neighboring properties.  If you are tempted to go off piste and are curious about where you can go, click on this link for a more detailed image.

Today’s grooming partly happened yesterday evening when the Ginzu was utilized to distribute the trail signs throughout the network and partly this morning when the Husky touched up the fields.  Conditions are firm and fast and should be nice today, especially as the day warms.

Groomer’s choice for today is the sunny fields.

Last Update: 1/7

It looks like we’re finally at the tail end of this recent weather system. Anticipate a windy rain/snow mix this afternoon that’ll linger through tomorrow morning followed by what appears to be a week’s worth of sunny/calm weather.  Due to the recent storms weather, our snowcat won’t be picked up for repairs until early next week… So, we’ll continue to limp the snowcat through on the yellow loop over the weekend. Next update will be Monday (1/10).
