Description:

The Darby Canyon trail follows the snow covered road along the valley floor and creek, with a flat to gentle uphill grade on the outbound stretch. Skiing in the canyon out to the summer trailhead for the Wind Cave makes a nice, quiet, easy ski as an out-and-back, between 7.75-8 miles round trip. The canyon is relatively narrow and with steep, forested side slopes, thus following the creek on the snow-covered road is the only open space for skiing. The Wind Cave trail itself is not recommended as it becomes steep fairly quickly, and has many switchbacks. Darby Canyon trail offers a nice change of pace for a gentle ski in the woods, on the west side of the Tetons.
