Contributing to Wildlife Conservation
Did you know that the #1 reason people travel to Wyoming is to view wildlife? Countless businesses rely on the tourism generated from the presence of wildlife, yet the majority of funding for wildlife conservation in Wyoming comes from the sale of hunting and fishing licenses. The tourism industry contributes very little to the conservation of wildlife, despite how heavily it depends upon the resource, and there is incredible potential for this industry to make a difference in wildlife conservation.
Wildlife Tourism For Tomorrow, created by EcoTour Adventures founder Taylor Phillips, aims to change this. Learn more about this brand new initiative and how you can make a difference in Wyoming wildlife conservation by heading over to the EcoTour Adventures blog.
Learn More About Winter Wildlife Closures
Professional Skier Lynsey Dyer and Bridger-Teton Wildlife Biologist Jason Wilmot take a trip up Snow King Mountain while discussing the importance of protecting wildlife and how to do so while recreating during the winters in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. They make their way to the borders of the wildlife closure areas surrounding the Snow King Resort boundaries to place notices of closure for skiers, snowboarders, and hikers. Wildlife at Your Local Nordic Areas
Here is a small collection of wildlife photos taken from some popular Nordic areas. Can you identify where any of the photos are from? There are a couple of wildlife mentions in the grooming reports below, perhaps they can be a helpful hint… Enjoy your Nordic adventures and take care of the wildlife: respect closures, control your dogs, be alert to avoid surprise encounters, and give wildlife plenty of space.

Lollipoppers and Teewinots Rule!
Today is the day when our littlest skiers hit the slopes; it’s always an awesome sight to see tiny humans scooting about on their skis, oftentimes with more skill than those much older. Today will be a busy day at Trail Creek with the whole collection of teams working hard, improving their Nordic game. Thankfully the whole trail network is being groomed and there should be plenty of room for all to spread out and have a good time.
If you’re looking to have a good time on your Nordic skis today, Trail Creek could surely be your answer. While it will be busy, you should be able to find just the right place for a great ski. Conditions today are great with sunshine, moderate temps and no wind.
Today’s grooming with the Husky covered most every trail. Most trails have classic tracks now and our bases are getting deep enough to get some pretty wide trails as well. The next snow cycle starts tonight which looks to bring us another foot or so in the next few days. Big Boy Bull was having a good time on the Aspen Bump this morning.
Groomer’s choice for today is Animal Farm and Go Lollipoppers and Teewinots!

Shooting Star
Grooming Daily
Last Update: 1/3
Enjoy the skiing today as it looks to be a very snowy week at Shooting Star. Plan ahead, as windy/drifty/snowy weather will persist from Tuesday- Saturday, bringing daily accumulations of 4”-8” and 24”-36” total for the week. We hope to keep the Snowcat somewhat functional during this storm system and continue to freshen the yellow loop up daily. Please, note our snowcat will be headed to Utah for repairs this Friday (1/7) and hopefully returned back between Thursday (1/13) & Monday (1/17). While the snowcat is gone next week, we’ll continue to groom only the yellow loop using our snowmobile. Fortunately, after this next storm passes, the weather appears to be calmer, which should assist us once we no longer have the snowcat and need to rely only on our snowmobile for grooming. Next update will be Thursday (1/6)… Again, plan ahead and use common sense if you decide to Nordic ski during severe winter weather events.

Skate: Set | Classic: Set
A couple cold, dry days, has set the track nice and firm. Mike groomed both skate and classic on Saturday with good results. This morning I’ll make a few more passes around the south loops to compact snow and reset both skate and classic with the Ginzu. Hopefully we’ll get north loops going later this week.
Please do not park in the library parking lot. Please be sure to keep your dogs on a leash and to clean up after them.

It was a marathon but I just finished grooming Yeti. There was about 1’ of new snow and I got stuck in several places. The end product looks pretty good. It will get firmer in days to come. Set a sweet crisp clean classic track and smoothed/packed for skating. Be advised the parking lot has not been plowed yet at time of posting. I’ve seen it worse but good tires and 4 wheel/awd recommended. Happy New Year!
No dogs December 1 – April 15.
