New Free Nordic Trail in Teton Village: Gray Meadow
We’re excited to announce a new “ revival” favorite free Nordic ski trail is now open in Teton Village.
Thanks to the partnership of the Snake River Ranch and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, with the community connection of the Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance, the groomed trail is open for 2.1 miles of groomed Nordic Skiing. While it’s not as big and creative as the former “Cowboy” Nordic Trial (we’re sharing the Gray Meadow area with a dog sled trail too), it’s still a delightful meadow and pathway to ski through and take in big Teton views. No bikes or dogs on the ski trail please. An easy, gentle trail. Check out the trail map and full description below.
Trip Report: Before the sunshine at LSR Preserve
Today was quiet and crunchy on our approximately 5 mile adventure to Laurence Rockefeller (LSR) Preserve from Granite Canyon trailhead! We were advised that the road was too uneven and treacherous for Nordic skiing so we chose the wiser out and back via the meadow, just east of the Granite Canyon trailhead. -KD.

Return of Mug’s Meadow Traditional Routing!
Thanks to an ice flow that covered the road early in the season, the current forest service road rotary plow driver doing a great job, and the cooperation of the National Forest Service, we were able to open the gate that allows us to ski from Mug’s Meadow into the Black Hole/Boiler area. A word of caution: we are skiing on the road for a short distance and the Husky won’t fit through the gate so it is backing in to groom, however, you can now get through there like years ago. The goal is to periodically give it a good whack with the Ginzu to keep it flowing smoothly, enjoy!
Today’s Husky grooming went quite well with results being pretty good all through the grooming session. The snow is still pretty firm but with aggressive and deep tilling was able to be coerced into some acceptably good corduroy and skate lanes. In a few places you will see some grouser tracks or voids from the hard snow, but this morning’s skiers have been wearing smiles.
Thanks to Coach Kaya for the recent image of Devos having a good time at Trail Creek; Devos, Juniors, Prep/Comp, Teewinot, Lollipopper, and Wilson Winter Sports skiers will all be on the trails this afternoon, making for a very busy day!
Groomer’s choice for today is to check out the traditional routing of Mug’s Meadow.

Warmer temperature will continue throughout this week with the weekend forecast becoming cooler and potential snow showers starting Friday. The sled hill will continue to be groomed only as needed due to the thin snow profile. We will continue to assess and adjust grooming as conditions develop during the week. With the current weather outlook, please anticipate areas that will continue to settle, with potential for grass and brushy areas to emerge. Skiers may encounter choppy sections on the track also. Our grooming schedule and methods may shift to preserve the track’s lifespan during the week. Next update will be Friday, February 2nd.
- Trail conditions are variable and thin areas persist.
- Walking is not allowed.
- Sled Hill is Open. Grooming will be as needed.
- Classic Tracks are set where snow allows.

Southern Valley Nordic
Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday
Last Updated: 1/29
Monday evening: All nordic trails got a refresh tonight. I reset the skate track and classic track on Campground and Yeti. Classic track is a bit shallow in some spots on Yeti. The trails should set up well overnight and be fast and firm Tuesday morning. Have fun.
Singletrack: 1/28
Sunday evening we groomed Nemos & Happy Hour, warm conditions during grooming made for good compaction of the trails. After a few cold nights the trails should really firm up and be riding well. BPA road / Powerline from Mike Harris TH to Pole Canyon TH and Sherman Springs access groomed up on Monday am.
Please note the USFS dog closure policy Dec 1st – April 15th at this venue.

Sherman Park
Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Last Updated: 1/31
Persevered and sort of overcame the comically challenging grooming conditions. The classic track is in better shape than it was (read: still not great, but definitely better). Skate track buffed out and real nice in some places. The current conditions at Sherman Park are highly variable: sun pocked, freshly groomed, and thin (dirt in some places!), are all words you could use to describe it. Enjoy what’s there. And hope for more snow. (if you’re headed out for Wednesday night lights, have fun! And expect conditions to be starting to get icy)

Reset skate lane so it should freeze tonight and be in good condition in the morning. I was unable to reset the classic tracks. I tried but was making them worse. Classic tracks are in generally poor condition- melted out and glazed. Hopefully we will get some more snow and we can refresh them.
