Teton Ridge Classic Update
The new race course is located in Victor, Idaho in the Mike Harris Trail system. It offers purpose built nordic trails that feature incredible classic skiing. In order to make the course more compelling and live up to the TRC name, we’re adding a few new sections of trail that have never been groomed before. This includes a rolling bike path, a highway underpass, private land, and an uphill classic single-track section that would make Bill Koch proud.
This years total course length will be 16km, 8km, and a junior 4km. Future years we hope to bring back the 25 km+ distance. We have provisional approval from multiple governmental agencies and can put out the official course map once we have final approval from all 4 governing bodies.
Per our permit, all racers will be required to park at the Moose Creek Ranch and ski 1.5km to the start line. The 16km course will finish at the Moose Creek Ranch while the 8km race will finish near the start area.
Registration is Open for Betty Woolsey Classic
Join us on December 23, 2023!
This event commemorates Betty Woolsey, a ski racing Olympian and the founder of Trail Creek Ranch. During her lifetime, Betty Woolsey pioneered backcountry skiing on Teton Pass, opened Trail Creek to JHSC for Nordic skiing in 1967, and helped the JHSC Nordic and biathlon programs get off the ground.
This community event offers distances for every age and ability; 10 AM start time with a mass start classic format. Racers can choose from 0.5k, 3k, 5k, and 10k options. The general public should register with the “open/citizens race” link. Online registration closes December 22 at 11AM.
TVTAP Grooming FAQS
Questions and answers have been reprinted from the December 8 TVTAP Newsletter, some edits have been made for clarity and brevity.
When will you start grooming? We’ve started grooming! The sunset photo was taken at Teton Canyon on Tuesday 12/5. Since then, we’ve had a bit of melt but then 4-7″ of new snow. We will start grooming at all six venues as soon as we are able to without causing damage to our equipment or the land beneath. We rely on a large group of volunteers for much of our grooming, and we’ve got to train and schedule these awesome humans, too. So our schedule will be variable and conditions-dependent until we can put together the regular schedule. Hopefully it won’t be too long!
How can I find out when and where you’ve groomed? [Check jhnordic.com/grooming] We are using the real-time, map-based system called Nordic Pulse used around the Jackson area and at cross-country areas nationwide. Trails shown in GREEN will have been groomed that day. YELLOW trails last saw a groom 1-3 days prior. The color-coding offers a pretty cool, quick way to see what’s going on.
What causes the most damage to winter trails? Footprints – whether from wild animals, dog paws, snowshoes or boots. Most of our trails are groomed for multi-use recreation and we want people to enjoy them, so we groom often to fix the damaged trails.
Do You Have More Questions? Reach out to info@tvtap.org and we’ll get back to you. Or watch for our TVTAP tent, which will rotate around the winter trailheads all season. The tent will be hosted by different staff members and TVTAP Board members. We will have info, trail stickers for purchase (Venmo, cash, or check), and chocolates!
Did You Have a Great Day on the Trails? Think of TVTAP and go online to buy an annual trail sticker ($75-$200) or give what you feel to support our donation-based trail system open to all.

Busy Week!
As you can see from the schedule below, while not as busy as January will be, JHSC Nordic is up and running at a pretty good clip. There will definitely be a good crew out this afternoon as Prep/Comp, Juniors, Devos, and December Teewinots all show up to enjoy some time on the snow.
Many people have already been enjoying some time on the snow this morning with an amazingly busy Monday morning crowd. It does look as if quite a few college students are home and skiing, but older skiers were in abundance as well.
What those skiers discovered today is that the Ginzu made multiple passes on nearly every trail throughout the network. New things today include a “first of the season” classic track around the perimeter of the close field and the fence line between Grunt and Confusion was also groomed for the first time. All in all things are pretty good “early season” conditions, but don’t forget that there are lots of hazards out there yet so be careful!
Groomer’s choice for today is to contribute your own tracks to lapping the close field.

Last Update: 12/11
Staff went up Game Creek on Saturday. Weekend storm was a bust. Snowmobile and pull behind took a real beating so we pulled out before getting into the sunny areas. We need 3-4” of wet snow or more fluffy snow to keep grooming.

Cache Creek Singletrack
Groomed by Friends of Pathways
Grooming Schedule: As Needed
Last Update: 12/10
We groomed the Cache Creek road to Noker Mine and upper Hagen from bridge 5 to 2. The lower trails are still a little thin on snow, especially under the trees, but are still compact enough to use for now. We will keep snowshoeing around and packing things in until there is enough snow to take the roller through.

Last Update: 12/11
Here are some photos from today. We groomed a classic track today. The snow depth was just deep enough to get a decent track laid. The skate track is really good right now with a few thin areas on some side hills and corners.
The weather forecast looks a little rough next week as it is forecasted to warm into the 40’s. Come ski now on case things turn awkward next week!!😀
We are offering lessons, used gear for sale, waxing, and new skis/clothing/accessories in the shop regardless of what happens next week outside. Call us with questions: (307) 732-4130

Last Update: 12/11
Trails continue to remain closed until further notice. A about 3” of light snow fell this past weekend and coverage remains thin. Throughout this week we’ll continue to evaluate how conditions evolve as we continue to compact and blow additional snow onto the track. Outlook is calling for dry weather with temperatures 5-10+ degrees above average this week. Next update will be Wednesday 12/13.

Saturday Noon update: Snowmobile packed all of Alta this morning and it needs more snow. Lots of grass and dirt clods poking out. The Library Loop and stadium area are in ok shape if you’re looking for a practice area.
