Trip Report: Turpin Meadow Ranch

Enjoyed four nights at Turpin Meadow last week. All great!!! Met Elee, the Snow Angel, featured recently in the TMR blog on JH Nordic. We traveled 2000 miles from New York to enjoy Jackson snow! We were not disappointed! All was great at TMR and then at the trails around Jackson, where we stayed for five more nights. Please keep up your great JH Nordic bulletins. Even when we’re not there, it makes  us feel close to the snow! All the best! -TZ

New on the Blog: The Four Seasons of Winter

It is hard for people who don’t live here to understand winters out west. Gregory Zeigler’s latest post explains the truth about a Teton winter: there are really four seasons, each lasting approximately six weeks. Read the post to find out which season of winter we are currently in and what to expect weather wise in the coming weeks.

Did you know there was a “Beers and Banter” at Jackson Hole History Museum and Society that featured locals to talk about “the old days” of Nordic skiing? See the recording on this months ICYMI. Also, be sure to read and share with friends an article on “Who to Call in an Emergency on Winter Trails.” Many thanks to Liz King with Teton County Search and Rescue, it may save a life.

High School State Championships (Part 2)

Today is the second half of State Championships, and excitement is running high at Trail Creek. Today’s domain is Skate skiing, and the Husky was hard at work flying across the trails last night to put everything in place for racing to begin.

Today’s race is mass-start, with the boys starting at 10:00, and girls starting at 11:00, so if you want to cheer on your local team, there’s still time to get to Stilson and catch the shuttle up! If that sounds like too much work for a Saturday, you can check out the race results when they are posted here.

Non-racers can feel free to ski on the East Fields and the upper warm-up loop, and then take a few minutes to cheer on the skiers before they disappear into the woods. Otherwise, the race should be over by the afternoon, so stop by later and ski the course for yourself.

Groomer’s choice is the warm-up loop, and to cheer on your local team!

1 inch of new snow accumulated yesterday. Unpredictable wind gusts throughout the last few days have created wind-loaded pockets of snow across the mountain that make for variable skiing conditions. Today, expect single digit temperatures and light cloud cover.

Remember, singletracks will be closed when there is more than 3 inches of snow in a 24 hour period.
