Trip Report: Phelps Lake Cross Country and Snowshoe

Phelps Lake was the perfect destination this weekend for both snowshoers and skiers!  The lake is nicely frozen providing the extra bonus of skiing across while enjoying 360 degree views.  An extra bonus was provided  by three ice-fishermen who demonstrated their skills by showing us their beautiful 15 inch lake trout.   -Karen D.

Patience Rewarded
The whole Valley has been waiting patiently for our next snowstorm, and today, that patience has been rewarded. Several inches of snow have fallen across our beloved trails, refreshing and rejuvenating them to a beautiful smooth glide, the Husky giving a sigh of relief at finally moving away from the hard aging snow of the past few weeks. The snow was still falling at the conclusion of grooming today, so there may be an inch or two of snow on the trails, but all in all, it should be a great ski. Today’s grooming was single passes on almost all trails, with double passes on Moose Loop, Black Hole/Boiler, Animal Farm, Olympic, and Outward/Homeward Bound.

Coach Libby and the Lollipoppers were enjoying the clear skies over the last few days, and having a great time learning how to ski better than ever, even exploring to the top of Suicide! Thanks, Libby, for sharing these awesome photos!

Meanwhile, Jackson ski efforts have gone international! Will Wicherski sent this great photo of Lena from their current location in Finland! Today they move on to easily-pronounceable Jyväskylä, where the world cup will be taking place. Good luck, Lena!(both in skiing and pronunciation!) And thanks to Will for the photo!
Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.

Happy Valentines Day! We woke up to 3 inches of fresh snowfall this morning since lifts closed. For now, we will see more snowfall this morning and afternoon with high temperatures in the 20’s and lows in the single digits. Our next predicted storm cycle is expected to roll through this weekend.

Remember, singletracks will be closed when there is more than 3 inches of snow in a 24 hour period.

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday & Friday

Skate: Set | Classic: Set

I’ve been watching the weather forecast change constantly for Tuesday. At this time the forecast is calling for 3-5 inches of new snow today, tapering off after 4pm. Seems unlikely, given there is only about an inch as of now. Unless it starts dumping soon, I plan on starting grooming Tuesday afternoon after 3pm. With this little new snow, I don’t plan on resetting the classic track.
