Exploring Grand Teton on Cross Country Skis

Winter in Grand Teton National Park is a magical time. For the tenth consecutive year, the Foundation is grooming the Teton Park Road Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays (conditions permitting) allowing visitors unparalleled access to the 14-mile stretch of road between Taggart Lake Trailhead and Signal Mountain. The region offers a variety of terrain choices and scenic destinations from half day trips to full day tours—follow the link below for some of our favorites! The last day of grooming for the season will be Friday, March 10!

Trip Report: Granite Canyon Loop

We love Jackson Hole!  What a better way to spend time with family than a Nordic Ski of the Granite Canyon Loop!  The snow was perfect, the bridge crossings extraordinarily beautiful, and a grand adventure was had by all. Here’s the Granite Canyon -Valley Trail Loop Trail Map for trail access and where to ski and snowshoe. No dogs as this trail is in southern GTNP. -K D

A Snowy Mystery
Did the groomer even show up today? Did they take advantage of the snowy weather to have a nice lie in, pretending to have gone out and worked hard grooming trails that were immediately covered in blowing powder?

Alas, no. In spite of what you might see out at Trail Creek today, grooming did, in fact, take place! All trails were groomed, as usual, with a double pass on Moose Loop, and grooming on the Stadium and Lollipopper Land. But three hours of whiteout conditions with more on the way has more or less completely wiped away this effort, so conditions could best be described as ‘extremely rustic’, with heavy falling snow and ~25mph winds. All the groomer can say is good luck, the powder’s getting deep out there.

Groomer’s Choice today is Moose Loop.

What is a cross country skier’s favorite fabric?… Corduroy! All of our ski trails are in great condition with a little new snow and attention from the pisten bully. There are some bold moose in Mule Pasture, they didn’t seem to care about the grooming equipment, in fact they were a little curious! The single track was groomed this morning also. If you’re thinking about an excursion to Turpin now is the time!

Turpin Meadow Ranch is open to all for skiing, lodging, dining, Nordic lessons, and tours! Closing day (March 12, 2022) is not too far away so make your plans to come to Turpin soon! Call the office (307) 543-2000 or visit our website to book your adventure and/or meal!

Rolled out a bunch of new snow on Monday night but it was snowing and blowing in as I finished. I guess we are in the flow again. Please don’t expect any great nordic conditions until this next wave passes. We shall endeavor to persevere through these adverse conditions until success us ultimately achieved. In other words…..we’ll keep groomin’ till it gets good again.

The weather forecast is not calling for significant snow or wind for the next couple of days so I decided to do an early groom on Tuesday. I should be there by 3pm and hope to be done by 6pm. I anticipate just rolling things out, but if it isn’t too soft I may try to firm it up a bit.
