Trail Creek

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 1/30

Welcome to Trail Creek!
If you’re lucky enough to come out to Trail Creek and make it out into the East Fields today you will be greeted by a trio of very happy looking snow people, silently monitoring the passing skiers.  For your Where’s Waldo moment, find the cow and calf moose hiding in the image.

Europe (600x800).jpg

Since yesterday’s grooming the forecast has moderated substantially with forecast highs now only 40ºF or lower with substantial snow arriving over the weekend.  Today’s grooming did start out a bit on the crunchy side, even though temps barely fell below freezing, the snow surface did freeze quite firmly.  The Husky covered the majority of the trails today with some of the beginning grooming a bit chunky, but becoming quite nice as temps warmed.  About half of the wood’s classic tracks were reset with at least one of the field classic tracks reset.  Skiing all and all continues quite nice.

Thanks to Coach Luna for sending in the picture above of Lena Poduska and Lucas Wilmot, two of our JHSC skiers who have been competing in Europe.  Click on their names to see their FIS point standings.

Groomer’s choice for today is to say hi to our resident snow people in the East Fields.

Shooting Star

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 1/29
Warmer temperature will continue throughout this week with the weekend forecast becoming cooler and potential snow showers starting Friday.  The sled hill will continue to be groomed only as needed due to the thin snow profile.  We will continue to assess and adjust grooming as conditions develop during the week.  With the current weather outlook, please anticipate areas that will continue to settle, with potential for grass and brushy areas to emerge. Skiers may encounter choppy sections on the track also. Our grooming schedule and methods may shift to preserve the track’s lifespan during the week. Next update will be Friday, February 2nd.

  • Trail conditions are variable and thin areas persist.
  • Walking is not allowed.
  • Sled Hill is Open. Grooming will be as needed.
  • Classic Tracks are set where snow allows.

Tuesday evening: Reset south classic track, with variable, spring like conditions, shallow in some places, good elsewhere.  And a pass over the skate track with fairly good results.

Trail Etiquette: Please keep your dogs leashed in the parking lot and be sure to clean up after them!

Southern Valley Nordic

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday
Last Updated: 1/29
Monday evening: All nordic trails got a refresh tonight. I reset the skate track and classic track on Campground and Yeti. Classic track is a bit shallow in some spots on Yeti. The trails should set up well overnight and be fast and firm Tuesday morning. Have fun.

Singletrack: 1/28
Sunday evening we groomed Nemos & Happy Hour, warm conditions during grooming made for good compaction of the trails. After a few cold nights the trails should really firm up and be riding well. BPA road / Powerline from Mike Harris TH to Pole Canyon TH and Sherman Springs access groomed up on Monday am.

Please note the USFS dog closure policy Dec 1st – April 15th at this venue.

Teton Reserve Nordic

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday

Groomed all the southern loops and set the classic track with the snow rabbit. Expect firm and icy conditions in the evening and mornings. Prime time should be around 11 AM to 3 PM. Enjoy the glide.

Teton Reserve parking lot works best when you park in the configuration in this image. Please refer to the photo for visual representation. Feel free to be a community member and coach each other on best practices. Park in the red highlights. NO PAKING IN THE GREEN HIGHLIGHTS.

Sherman Park

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Last Updated: 1/30
Comically challenging grooming conditions, even with an approach to target dropping temps. Unfortunately skate and classic tracks are still in poor condition. Will go again when conditions are more favorable. Enjoy the sun.

Driggs School Loops

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Last Updated: 1/28
Groomed late Sunday night. It was still pretty gloppy after todays warm up but should freeze overnight. The track is smoother than it was Sunday but a little rougher than usual from sticking to the groomer. It should still ski well early. It would be best if not used in the afternoon once it warms up. Hopefully colder temps and snow return soon.

Please pick up your trash and dog pop with the supplied Mutt Mitt station.

Alta Nordic Track

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday

Smoothed out the skate lane Monday night. Should be reasonably good on Tuesday morning. I left the classic track as is. It is ok and I don’t think I could have made it any better. I’m not sure about this but there might be a crust opportunity in the morning. Yes…..January crust. Weird!
