Trip Reports: A Fun Weekend on Nordic Skis
This weekend many people got on their Nordic skis and traveled over hills and through the woods enjoying mild temperatures and good company. While the trails explored were varied there was one thing in common with them all: it was great to be outside on winter trails!
NL and crew explored Game Creek: “Parks & Rec groomed Game Creek with Bushong Property Services snow cat, with excellent corduroy and a classic track. Very nice ski, well behaved dogs, skate and classic, and even 1 fat bike.”
CS checked out the Cache Creek trail: “It has not been groomed in a while and road is a bit rough but skiable. Not good for track skis. Hagan was kind of bumpy, but plenty of snow and nice to be up there.” Since this report was sent in there has been some attention paid to Cache Creek: “I rolled the cache creek road 4 wide, uts not corduroy but it should be wide enough to skate ski. I also smoothed out some of the singletrack with the harrow drag.” -Chris O.
KD & JS Headed out to Phelps Lake from Granite Canyon Trailhead: “Snow was perfect both out and back but a little thin on the lake so beware! Great new parking area!”
The Spud Chase
Hooray for TVTAP’s new rabbit, and their dedicated groomers! The Spud Chase course was transformed overnight from quite soft to a firm fun race course.
Thanks to all of the volunteers (like Melanie who stood in the breeze, cozy as can be in her onesie, directing lap traffic), the racers, the cheerers, the groomers, the race sponsors and Kevin and Deb for putting together a fun community race.
About 80 racers competed, from a 1/2k loop for the youngest racers to two laps of the 11k course for the young at heart! And yes! There were cookies at the finish line for all and a baked potato bar to fuel the racers.
Night Ski at Turpin Meadow Ranch
Looking for a way to shake up your routine? Come howl at the wolf moon! This Thursday, January 25 Turpin Meadow Ranch is hosting their first night ski of the season from 5PM-8PM. Ski or fat bike under the January “wolf” moon, but bring your headlamp just in case of cloud cover. There will be glow sticks for all participants to help light your way. Afterwards warm up in the lodge with drink specials and fondue. Call ahead for reservations (307) 543-2000.

Another Busy Week!
Lollipoppers, Teewinots, Devos, Juniors, Ositos, Prep/Comp, Masters, and perhaps even you will be cruising the trails of Trail Creek this week. Even with many skiers off to Soldier Hollow for the second Junior National Qualifier later in the week, our trails will be on the busy side. Never to fear, we have lots of trails and enough snow so there should be plenty of skiing for all.
Today those trails have been groomed by our hard working Husky. The abnormally warm January temps are making today feel a bit like March and did result in some slightly crunchy conditions this morning, but things did groom up nicely all in all.
Most woods trails received a single skate/classic pass, the fields mostly received both double classic track and skate passes and Moose Loop received double Husky passes today. Some of the earlier grooming did result in some grouser tracks showing through, but mostly you’ll find some nice 39.4º F (as of report time) skiing today. Do keep in mind that things will be very busy after school today.
Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.

Last Update: 1/19
Trails remain in good shape after recent winds and snowy weather. Temperatures will be 5-10 degrees above average for the foreseeable future, which will cause some settling on the track to occur throughout the day. Because this settling effect, there may be a few awkward/choppy sections as the snow profile changes/evolves from packed-powder to hard-packed. Outlook is calling for daily light snow showers or rain/snow mix to occur through Monday. Next update will be Tuesday 1/23. Enjoy!
- Trail conditions are early season as thin areas persist.
- Walking is not allowed.
- Sled Hill is Open.
- Classic Tracks are set where snow allows.
