Game Creek Trail WY

Jackson

Fee: $0.00 - donations appreciated

Access:

Drive south from Jackson on Hwy 89 approx 6 miles to Game Creek Road (east side of the highway). 1 mile up Game Creek Road.

Description:

The Game Creek trail begins as a National Forest Service road and is groomed twice a week by Teton County/Jackson Parks & Rec Dept. for the first 3.3 miles one-way (6.6 groomed return) on Monday and Friday, generally in the afternoon. Conditions may vary between grooming days if fresh snowfall has occurred. It offers an excellent experience for both skate and classic skiing on the first section, then turns into a skier-tracked trail for classic skiing only.

Parking: Park in a small dirt parking lot on the east side of the road.

Skiing Experience: Rolling terrain with an elevation gain/loss of 500'. Snowmobiles are allowed on the Game Creek Trail.

Winter Grooming: The trail is groomed twice a week. Check for current trail conditions, especially after fresh snowfall.

Dog Owners: Dogs must be kept on a leash for the first mile due to USFS Winter Wildlife Range Regulations.

Nordic Skiers: The trail offers an excellent experience for both skate and classic skiing on the first section, then turns into a skier-tracked trail for classic skiing only.

Directions:

The trail follows this service road east, then turns to the north and eventually narrows, leading high and deep into the canyon, crosses a divide, and connects with upper Cache Creek. However, the trail is normally skied as an out-and-back, offering a feeling of remote beauty even though it is only 20 minutes from the heart of Jackson. Ski back along the same route for the return journey.

Elevation gain: 451m
