Responsible Winter Trail Use

Recreating responsibly is one of the best ways we can preserve the qualities that draw us to live and recreate in this magnificent place. There are good habits we can practice every time we go out that help protect our watershed once the snow melts, reduce the stress that wildlife may experience during a season when they are vulnerable, preserve the quality of a groomed track, and promote community between users enjoying different types of recreation. Here are some friendly reminders for the next time you hit our winter trails.

Moose Chase Fun!

Moose, half moose, mini moose, itty bitty moose! Skiers from 2 to 75+ enjoyed a cold sunny day of racing on the gorgeous Trail Creek Nordic trails Saturday. Hot dogs and chili dogs grilled up by Frank himself (of FRX) hit the spot post-race. Shout out to Skinny Skis and the JHSC for putting on this community race for all the Nordic fans, racing their first or 50th race. Moose, half moose, mini moose, itty bitty moose! Did you Know?

According to the BTNF Winter Nordic Ambassadors, almost 2000 people have visited Cache, Nelson, Game and Trail Creek trails already this winter. And 1000 dogs have walked and played with their humans enjoying the snowy landscapes. We appreciate that 80% of those dogs have been appropriately leashed at these popular destinations, which are also important wildlife habitat. To support wildlife as winter continues, we’d love your help in moving this number closer to 100%. Thanks!

Simply Glorious!
Three inches of fresh snow, balmy temps, and miles of fresh Husky grooming and the Nordic world at Trail Creek is looking glorious.  Today’s grooming covered every single trail with everything abandoned for the Moose Chase being brought back into skiing.  Every trail received at least a single skate/classic pass with Moose Loop, Woolsey Woods, and the fields receiving multiple passes.  The snow has firmed quite nicely since last week’s major dump and should ski very nicely today.  All the inner field loops and Nordic X are ready and waiting as well.

Another busy week is on tap for valley Nordic skiers.  Some IMD racers are off to Bozeman for a tune-up event in preparation for nationals while other youth skiers will be participating in the Wyoming High School Championships at Casper Mountain.

Finally, the Moose Chase results are up and additional pictures will be posted for a few days.

Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.
