Moose Chase Fun!

Moose, half moose, mini moose, itty bitty moose! Skiers from 2 to 75+ enjoyed a cold sunny day of racing on the gorgeous Trail Creek Nordic trails Saturday. Hot dogs and chili dogs grilled up by Frank himself (of FRX) hit the spot post-race. Shout out to Skinny Skis and the JHSC for putting on this community race for all the Nordic fans, racing their first or 50th race. Moose, half moose, mini moose, itty bitty moose! Did you Know?

According to the BTNF Winter Nordic Ambassadors, almost 2000 people have visited Cache, Nelson, Game and Trail Creek trails already this winter. And 1000 dogs have walked and played with their humans enjoying the snowy landscapes. We appreciate that 80% of those dogs have been appropriately leashed at these popular destinations, which are also important wildlife habitat. To support wildlife as winter continues, we’d love your help in moving this number closer to 100%. Thanks!

Thanks for a Great Day!
Thanks to the racers, volunteers, spectators, staff, supporters, and anyone else who helped to put on a great Skinny Skis Moose Chase yesterday.  A blue bird sky and lovely Nordic temperatures greeted a great crowd that came out for this amazing JHSC annual tradition, thanks again to a great community.

If you want more Nordic skiing today, you can surely find it at Trail Creek.  The Husky was hard at it early this morning, covering nearly every trail and bringing some of the abandoned ones back as well.  Most of the woods and fields received a single skate/classic pass while the close field and Woolsey Woods received multiple passes.

Moderate snowfall has been happening since grooming began although daytime totals are forecast to be less than three inches.

Groomer’s choice for today is to check out freshly groomed for the first time in a week, slightly soft, but beautiful Woolsey Woods.

Yeti and campground skate and classic track set. It’s looking good but will probably be a little soft. Snowing lightly when I left, get out and enjoy it!

Singletrack: 2/18
Double double, baby. 2 passes with 2 sleds and rollers on the whole system: Upper + Lower Hillbender, Nemo, Upper + Lower Ladyslipper, and BPA to Lower Ladyslipper. We set a sled track on Grumpy, but it is NOT rideable or compacted. Some soft spots out there, but the main trails were already firming up towards the end of the night, so hopefully it’s good tomorrow.

Fair amount of boot prints on Hillbender from today. Remember to walk on the edge of the track if you can’t pedal it or climb the BPA road to avoid rutting out the singletrack.

Please note the USFS dog closure policy Dec 1st – April 15th at this venue.
