New on the Blog: Vene esquí conmigo, “Ski with me”

Local organization Camina Conmigo gets Latinx residents outside: just because someone lives in Jackson, it doesn’t guarantee that they have unlimited access to the outdoors. Camina Conmigo translates to ‘walk with me’ and their mission is just that. Established in 2021, Camina Conmigo is a true community effort with many groups and individuals coming together to support the mission. Immersing the Latinx community to the outside in their own backyard has the potential to drastically change individual experience and rewrite the present narrative.

Winter Service Levels and Important Dates

The Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation Department continues to be in full winter mode as we roll past meteorological spring (March 1st).  That being said, we are starting to think about spring/summer activities and wanted to provide an update on timing of some of our infrastructure and Special Events for March:

  • Grooming will continue through March based on the snowpack and forecast.  Staff will evaluate conditions the week of April 3rd and determine if grooming can continue past that date.
  • Parks and Recreation Public Open House has been scheduled for Thursday March 9th and Friday March 10th to solicit public input on Winter Service Levels, as well as Karns Meadow Zoning and Master Plan and Melody Ranch Trailhead Bicycle Pump Track. For more information visit: https://engagetetoncountywy.com/tetonopenhouse

Please continue to check the Parks and Recreation website for up-to-date information including grooming and ice rink status: http://www.tetonparksandrec.org/1338/Parks-Pathways

Snowy Cabin Edition
Winter just doesn’t want to quit, but the time has come! The rankings might have to change at some point with the ongoing snow accumulation, but at present, the Department of Snowy Cabin Analysis would put 2023 in the top 3 of all snowy cabins, edged out by only 2019 and 2017!

As for today’s grooming, the snow was falling and the wind was howling at Trail Creek, but the Husky forged on regardless. All the woods received grooming, with double passes on Moose Loop, Homesite, Animal Farm, Déjà vu, and Mug’s Meadow. All the fields trails also were groomed (as well as all four stadiums), but with some pretty major wind, expect some serious drifting and for the classic tracks to fill in pretty fast. Fortunately, at 24 degrees it’s not too chilly, but it might be wise to head for the woods ASAP.

Groomer’s choice is Mug’s Meadow.

Due to high winds and Park Service Crews needing to be on the road near Signal, Friday’s grooming did not make it all the way to Signal.

Lots of fresh corduroy from Taggart to Signal, thanks to GTNP grooming! Check out JHNordic.com/Grooming/ to find other fresh grooming in our new real-time map, thanks to our partner, Nordic-Pulse.

Turpin Meadow Ranch

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 3/3
March is off to a wintery start keeping the groomers working hard! All trails were reset with the pisten bully Friday morning but wind and snow during the day made for storm skiing. The pisten bully will be out again Saturday morning. The fat bike groomer had to make multiple passes Friday and will probably be doing the same Saturday. The moose continue to linger near the ranch so be aware while you’re sliding and gliding on our trails!

Turpin Meadow Ranch is open to all for skiing, lodging, dining, Nordic lessons, and tours! Closing day (March 12, 2022) is fast approaching so make your plans to come to Turpin soon! Call the office (307) 543-2000 or visit our website to book your adventure and/or meal!
