ICYMI – JH Nordic Beers and Banter at JH History Museum Panel
Recording now available!

Hosted by the Jackson Hole History Museum and Morgan Jaoen (ED), featured an outstanding panel of long time Jackson Hole local Nordic skiers: Gwenn and Don Wadsworth, Sean O’Malley, Nancy Johnstone, Linda Merigliano.

“Last week’s program was magical, it was incredible to hear your stories and see you connect with the audience. The laughter, applause, and positive comments afterwards certainly indicate how much everyone enjoyed the program.”

Watch the recording on the Museum’s YouTube channel.

Wildlife Wednesdays with Jackson Hole EcoTour Adventures

Pine martens are tricky to spot on tour, given their smaller size and ability to blend in with their surroundings. Unlike other members of the weasel family, though, their fur doesn’t turn white in the winter, which makes spotting them easier!

On the Blog: A Day at Turpin Meadow Ranch

Before the first light dips onto the tips of the cathedral peaks, the day has already begun for Turpin Meadow Ranch’s token Snow Angel, Elee Deschu. Her day usually begins at 5:30 am, firing up the Pistenbully to groom the vast nordic trail system that sits just north of Grand Teton National Park in Moran, Wyoming. She’ll then write a trail report to send to the front office of the lodge that hosts 14 rentable cabins and chalets. Elee and the team at Turpin Meadow Ranch are essential to keeping operations running year round.

The…Grouse Chase?

There may have been a miscommunication in the animal kingdom, as what did we have on our trails this morning? Not a moose, but a grouse! He was very much unconcerned with my presence and happily chilled out in the middle of the trail until I almost ran over him! I was considering changing my dinner plans, when he finally decided to high-tail it, running a few dozen yards down the trail before dodging off the side. Whew, a close call!

Grooming today was rounding out the race course, which is starting to look pretty good! Double passes on most trails that didn’t get them yesterday, as well as smoothing out some of the new trails in the fields, has really started to bring it into its own. The Stadium, Lower Stadium, Lollipopper Land and Nordic X also were groomed, and are looking very nice. Temperatures are warm, so expect to sink in a bit today!

Already reading at 35 degrees outside, Groomer’s choice is a cooler ski in the woods around Homesite and Suicide!

Last Update: 2/6
The past 7+ days brought us deep snow followed by very frigid temperatures. This combination makes for a crumbly and not very pliable snow profile. GCM recently has been doing aggressive blade work and grooming to assist with releveling the track after the recent weather events. Due to the snow profile currently being less pliable and crumbly, skiers may see cleats marks or voids that aren’t filled in. Most of the voids are esthetic and won’t impact skiing. However, during this transitional snowpack, there could be an occasional awkward spot next to tight corners or where heavy drifts routinely occur. Please pay attention to Wednesday’s weather, as new cold front will push through bringing breezy/windy and drifty conditions. Overall, skiing should continue to be very enjoyable this week with calmer weather returning Thursday. Enjoy! Next Update will be Friday.

Please help support trail grooming in GTNP by donating to the Grand Teton National Park Foundation. It’s easy and encouraged. All you need to do is visit: GTNPF.org/donate/ and leave the comment “Nordic” in the designation section. There is the opportunity to leave a one time gift or reoccurring monthly donations in any amount.

Pretty challenging conditions this morning. The north loop was blown and drifted to the point it was almost completely indiscernible. Especially with the light being so flat. So in general that end is very soft. Everything has been refreshed now though. REMINDER- if your dog is taking the stakes like sticks then PLEASE REPLACE THEM. We can’t find our way to groom without them. Especially on days like today. There are a lot of stakes disappearing. Thanks!
