Research Revealed: A striking relationship between wolves and parasites
Written by ETA Naturalist @kels_wellington
Once a month, ETA plans to publish a new post for blog readers about new or recent scientific findings or pieces of news from the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. We hope this inspires curiosity among our readers!

For the inaugural post, we are sharing a very exciting discovery from a world that is invisible to the naked eye, and its effect on a very popular mammal in the GYE. Even the most microscopic of creatures can influence its ecosystem! A new study published in the journal Communications Biology has revealed that a gray wolf infected with the parasite known as Toxoplasma gondii is almost twice as likely to become a pack leader than a non-infected wolf. Curious to learn more? Head to the Ecotour Adventures blog to read up on the exciting new findings!

We Want to Hear From You!

We would love to highlight your adventures and your photos in trip reports. If you’re willing to share your thoughts and photos please email your stories to info@jhnordic.com. And don’t worry, you don’t have to share locations if you’d like to keep your favorite spot to yourself.

The Business End!
What you’re looking at in the image above is the tiller on the Husky doing what it does best, tilling up snow so that it can be compacted into some really nice skiing.  The tiller is a pretty amazing tool as the speed, depth, and down pressure can all be simply adjusted with combinations of buttons, dials, and toggle switches in the cab; one of the more important components of turning out lots of great Nordic skiing.

Today’s grooming with the Husky covered pretty much every trail in the network.  The Close Field, Animal Farm, Moose Loop, and Armin’s all received multiple passes and fresh classic tracks were placed pretty much universally.  Snowfall was happening all through grooming this morning with up to 4 inches falling.  Skiing is nice but a little soft.

Looking ahead, the high school racers are off to Laramie and the IMD racers are off to Sun Valley this weekend, which means that our local Nordic skiers will have a three day weekend with minimal training happening on Friday.  You’ll have plenty of opportunities to get your ski in this weekend.

Groomer’s choice for today is the Close Field.
