Teton Ridge Classic Updates

The Teton Ridge Classic is this Saturday!
There will be a 1km option for any youngsters who would like to race, but need a shorter distance than 4km.

Here are the details:
– on site registration for 1km option ONLY will be 9-11:20am at Moose Creek Ranch 2733 E 10800 S, Victor, ID. It’s free! (Register for longer races prior to Friday at 5pm here: https://tetonridgeclassic.com/ )

– a shuttle will be available for 1km racers and parents. It will leave from Moose Creek Ranch at 11:40am and 11:55am. There is NO RACER / NO SPECTATOR parking at Mike Harris. (There is an option to ski over to Mike Harris from Moose Creek Ranch for those who would like to get there on their own.)

– The kids’ race is scheduled to start at 12:30pm after most (or all?) of the 16km skiers are finished.

More updates:
Registration closes Friday at 5pm. There is no day of race registration. Racers who are signed up will receive another email Thursday night with more details on bib pick up, parking, after event, etc.

The organizing committee has decided that the 16km course will be two laps of the 8km. The decision is due to the single track section being too icy to be safe. Next year! and the 8km loop is amazing and doing it two times is twice as nice.

Trip Report: Great skiing at Targhee

FYI, Targhee has really good skiing, for both classic and skate. I think it’s fair to say that it’s the best cross-country skiing in our area right now, by far. No dogs, no skijorers, no people walking in the tracks, no snowmobiles, how great is that?

JHNA Annual Event Raffle

Come up to share the fun with the Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance and all our generous sponsors, for the Raffle supporting our local non-profit partner, Camina Conmigo.

Camina Conmigo empowers Spanish speaking adults to explore public lands by centering education, skill development and relationship building on outdoor adventures, including cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

Reason #2 to Attend the Winter Trails Event of the Season

One of the most unique aspects of the JH Nordic Alliance annual winter trails event is the opportunity to bring people outdoors to enjoy recreational activities on public land. Many may not be aware that Turpin Meadow Ranch is nestled within the vast expanse of the Bridger Teton National Forest.

Turpin Meadow employee and resident ‘Snow Angel,’ Elee Deschu previously worked for Bridger-Teton National Forest. “For me, claustrophobia sets in when I visit places that have “private property – keep out” signs plastered all over. Being on public lands is the ultimate freedom: we all have access to this big backyard to recreate responsibly in. And knowing that these lands were protected long ago for future generations to experience makes me grateful to enjoy and tread lightly knowing that someday, years from now, others will be able to make enduring connections out here too,” says Elee”

Sign the Waiver for the Annual Free Event!

There are less than 2 weeks until Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance’s 6th Annual Free Ski, Fat Bike, & Snowshoe Day! Join us on January 7th at Turpin Meadow Ranch, where there will be free classic and skate ski gear demos, ski lessons, Turpin Meadow trail use, Backcountry Nordic ski tours, Snowshoe tours, Kids Corral, and a free Town-to-Turpin van shuttle.

Last Update: 1/4
Hard Working Snow!
For being groomed dozens of times and skied thousands of times, the snow above in the Close Field is still doing pretty well.  The Close Field got a very serious workout yesterday when nearly all the JHSC Youth Nordic programs descended on Trail Creek for the first full spectrum skiing day of the season.  That hard working snow will give you a pretty good Nordic ski if you make it out today; looking ahead, a promising forecast is projecting around 21 inches by the first day of our big IMD/Wyoming High School race beginning a week from tomorrow on January 12th.

snow totals.jpg

A few of our older skiers are still skiing well in Utah, participating in the Senior National Nordic Championships.  They now have a link to results on the event page where you can check out just how our racers are doing.

Pulse (640x539).jpg

Today’s grooming was at least a single best line Ginzu pass on pretty much every trail that has been groomed recently with multiple passes around the Close Field, Animal Farm, Olympic, and a few other locations.  One other way you can keep up with the grooming is to check out the Nordic Pulse website where you can see the above map detailing the recent grooming which we update at the completion of each day’s session.

Groomer’s choice for today is Animal Farm.

Teton Co./Jackson Parks & Rec

Last Update: 12/11
Staff went up Game Creek on Saturday. Weekend storm was a bust. Snowmobile and pull behind took a real beating so we pulled out before getting into the sunny areas. We need 3-4” of wet snow or more fluffy snow to keep grooming.

Cache Creek Singletrack

Groomed by Friends of Pathways
Grooming As Needed

Last Update: 12/10
We groomed the Cache Creek road to Noker Mine and upper Hagen from bridge 5 to 2.  The lower trails are still a little thin on snow, especially under the trees, but are still compact enough to use for now.  We will keep snowshoeing around and packing things in until there is enough snow to take the roller through.

Please help support trail grooming for the Cache Creek Single track trails by donating to the Friends of Pathways.  Visit: friendsofpathways.org/donate/ and leave the comment “Grooming” in the campaign section.

Shooting Star

Grooming As Needed

Early season and thin conditions will continue as dry & sunny weather is forecasted for yet another week . Friendly reminder to ski only on the trails and do not venture off paths to prevent injury and damage on the golf course. Next update will be Friday (1/5). Happy New Years and enjoy the sunshine!

  • Trail conditions are early season. Please ski with caution as the snow profile is extremely thin.
  • Walking is not allowed.
  • No classic tracks will be set, and sporadic bare/brushy/exposed areas may be present.
  • Grooming frequencies will be as needed to preserve the track.
  • Sled Hill is Closed. Needs ample snow (2FT).
  • Temporary closures of the Nordic Course may be needed until additional snow accumulates if severe melt occurs.
  • Small game/scavenger animals may be present throughout the whole course. Use extra caution when skiing with dogs.

Turpin Meadow Ranch

Grooming As Needed
Last Update: 1/2
All trails received at least a best pass with the ginzu the evening of New Years Day. The summer homes and riverside trails (5.5k) continue to be the best we have to offer, especially for skating. If you’re going to venture into the hills we recommend your classic gear, and remember to ski with your eyes up and watch out for hazards. Bikers, please stay off of the ski trails in the hills, there is single track available in the lower pasture and on the riverside. The hills trails are just a little too soft for fat bikes right now and if grooves are formed there is no repairing them until more snow comes.

TMR is open to all for skiing, lunch, Nordic lessons, and tours! Call the office (307) 543-2000 or visit our website to book your adventure and/or meal! Check out our live webcam for current conditions.

Please help support trail grooming in GTNP by donating to the Grand Teton National Park Foundation. It’s easy and encouraged. All you need to do is visit: GTNPF.org/donate/ and leave the comment “Nordic” in the designation section. There is the opportunity to leave a one time gift or reoccurring monthly donations in any amount.

Grooming Has Yet to Begin in Grand Teton National Park.

GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) shared a road status update to its Facebook page on Thursday, Dec. 21, sharing that grooming operations on Teton Park Road will be delayed until more snow falls.

  • Get Outside: Early Season Skiing and More in Jackson Hole
While many of us dream of clipping into our skis for early-season skiing in Jackson Hole, this November, you can still see the roots and rocks beneath your feet. A forecast predicts another 3 inches of snow this weekend in Jackson, with a few more inches expected into Thanksgiving week, and we’re all ready for it.
