Tech Tip of the Week

One issue that can get in the way of a great Nordic day is newly fallen snow building up on the grip portion of our bases. This “icing” can be a problem with waxable skis, as well as fish-scale or skin skis. There are different fixes for each type of ski.

For waxable skis, try “covering”: First apply the wax of the day, as usual, for grip. Then cover this layer of wax with a layer of colder wax that will not be sticky. Cork very lightly so as not to mix the layers. The covering may need to be reapplied after skiing for a while.

Fish-scale skis: Some success can be achieved with one of the many products available for treating the fish scales. Most of these glide-enhancing products are short lasting, so pack it along. A more effective method is to use an aerosol spray wax to lightly coat the fish scales. After the wax dries, use a stiff nylon ski brush to be sure the profile of the fish scales is exposed.

Groomer Report from Shooting Star

Skiers should expect storm skiing and unpredictable conditions throughout this weather cycle. Good times can still be found on the trails, but please keep up with the forecast as the weather could get rowdy. Reminder we only groom once a day during the early morning hours.

Classic tracks are now set where snow depths allow, and the sled hill has been regroomed. More wintery weather is expected to continue. Enjoy the fresh snow, stay safe and enjoy!
