Hunter Ranch BC Nordic Crust Cruising

Cold nights and sunny spring days have set a firm crust on open meadows and gentle hills surrounding Jackson Hole and Teton Valley.

We set out at 9am on the frozen crust at the top of the Antelope Flats hill, off the GTNP road that lead to Shadow Mountain.

Using BC Nordic skis for stability and “kicker” skins to grip better on the climb, we skied progressively up to the ridge top overlooking Ditch Creek to the east, and the endless vista of the Tetons and central Jackson hole to the west. A snack at the top then a series of traverses and snowplows on top of the firm crust for the descent. The key is to be off the snow around 1 (unless north facing) to avoid mushy snow.

We encourage winter trail users to support all of our grooming teams across Jackson Hole and Teton Valley. When possible please consider a donation to the trails you frequent. Please leave a comment such as “grooming” or “Nordic” in the designation or campaign section.

Trail Creek

Last Update 3/19

2023-2024 JHSC Devo Team!
This JHSC Nordic team of mostly fourth and fifth graders has been hanging out at Trail Creek on Mondays and Wednesdays since the snow flew, playing, racing, and having a great time on Nordic skis.  This is the age where their skills are good enough to tackle pretty much everything and some of them are beginning to get serious about skiing really fast.  Their season wrapped up last Wednesday but you can be sure that many of these skiers will be back for more in the years to come!

If you’re still looking for more Nordic skiing this winter, you can find it today at Trail Creek.  The Husky was out and about late in the day yesterday, grooming nearly every trail.  New for yesterday, the fallen tree on Cle’s Climb was taken care of so that you can ski there again (the snow is dirty but skiable) and a little bit of new routing was groomed in the Close Field in preparation for next week’s racing.

Most trails received a single skate/classic pass with the Close Field receiving multiple passes.  Today will be another day of hard fast condition’s early on, transitioning to soft as the day warms with shady spots staying firm all day; reports from yesterday indicate that skiing is still very nice.

Groomer’s choice for today is Cle’s Climb.

Teton Pines Nordic

Grooming Daily – Final Day Sunday
Last Update
: 3/20
The best classic skiing is between 11am and 1pm due to the typical end of season freeze/thaw cycle. The best skate skiing is right now after our morning groom!

Today is the last day for waxing and Saturday will be our final day for grooming. The track closes at sundown on Sunday because the golf crew will begin clearing snow and working after that. There isn’t much time between our closing date and the opening date for golf and there is an incredible amount of work that happens to get the course ready to open.

Shooting Star

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 3/18
Grooming has switched back to the mornings as we’ve finished our black sand application. Warm temperatures have caused the trails to shift into a spring profile and skiers should anticipate icy conditions during the morning followed by slushy/softer conditions in the afternoon. Due to the spring profile, settled areas, icy/crunchy sections, and ponding may be common as the snow significantly melt during the day then solidly freezes at night, which creates difficult grooming conditions regardless of morning or evening grooming. Overall, skiing should be enjoyable, but be aware that conditions will vary depending on the time of day.  Outlook is calling for warm conditions to continue with possible wintry weather returning by the weekend. Enjoy the sunshine and late season skiing!

Turpin Meadow Ranch

Grooming Has Ended For The Season
Last Update: 3/17
What a day for the season closer! Sunny skies, fast trails, delicious food, lots of rentals and a lesson out of our ski hut, the luck of the Irish, and smiles all around. Thank you to all who visited us this winter. As we reflect on the 2023/2024 winter season we are so grateful for the community who loves Turpin, it truly is the people who make this place special.

Turpin Meadow Ranch is located on the Bridger-Teton National Forest therefore you can still use the winter trails though they will no longer be maintained and most amenities are closed for the season. The lodge restrooms and retail shop will be open from 9am-4pm until April 15. If you venture up this spring be sure to carry your bear spray. We kindly ask that any springtime trail users respect the fact that the buildings, vehicles, and essentially anything above ground is private property and unavailable during the off season.

Pushed a bunch of snow into some thin spots, widened out the snowmobile lane and set a double rabbit track to the back campground. It’s soft and slushy now but should be firm and fast by morning.

Trail Etiquette: Please keep your dogs leashed in the parking lot and be sure to clean up after them!

Southern Valley Nordic

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday
Last Updated: 3/19
Tuesday morning: I was able to get a decent reset on all skate lanes at Southern Valley. Kevin’s classic track from yesterday on Yetis looked good so I left it alone. Tried to reset the classic track on Campground but it didn’t turn out great. No classic track on Campground extension. Enjoy the sunshine!

Singletrack: 3/20
Groomed BPA East to Teton Springs, Sherman Springs access and happy hour. Plan your ride for early a.m. and late p.m. through the night by headlight when the temperatures are near the freezing mark and below. Enjoy the ride.

Please note the USFS dog closure policy Dec 1st – April 15th at this venue.

Teton Reserve Nordic

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Last Updated: 3/19
Tuesday morning: reset all skate tracks at the Reserve. Tried resetting classic but was making it worse so left it as is, and it’s still in good condition in most places.

The north loops have taken a real toll from the sun the last couple of days. Both the skate and classic tracks are much better on the southern loops and the driving range is in particularly good shape. As a heads up: the skate lane is melting out uneven in places and the camber of the track may be funky. Made some improvements with the ginzu but given the sun and temps it may be an uphill battle.  Get that vitamin D and enjoy the skiing while it’s in!

ATTENTION: Do not CRUST CRUISE on golf course property and respect the privacy of homeowners. Stay away from homes, private property and ski on established trails only. Thank you.

Sherman Park

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday

Reset the skate and classic track with Ginzugroomer. Turned out OK given the conditions. Get it early before it turns to a sloppy mess. Primetime should be between 30 and 40 degrees between the freeze and thaw. Enjoy the glide.

Driggs School Loops

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Last Updated: 3/20
Reset skate and classic Wednesday morning. Turned out pretty well considering the conditions. Crust cruising still rules, but the track should be decent for a day or two.

Please pick up your trash and dog pop with the supplied Mutt Mitt station.
