Tomorrow: Free Admission to Grand Teton National Park in Honor of MLK Day

As reported on Buckrail: the National Park Service will waive entrance fees at all sites on Monday, Jan. 16 in honor of MLK Day/Equality Day.

Commemorated on the third Monday of January, MLK Day/Equality Day is a day to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and legacy. In the U.S. this is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

“The greatest birthday gift my husband could receive is if people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds celebrated the holiday by performing individual acts of kindness through service to others.” – Coretta Scott King

Eat Pizza for a Purpose!

You’re invited to hang out with The Friends of the Bridger-Teton at Handfire Pizza on Tuesday January 17th from 5PM-close. A portion of all sales will go to help the friends group purchase fire rings for the North Zone of the Bridger-Teton (that’s the Jackson and Buffalo ranger districts). In addition to pizza with a purpose, there will be swag, prizes, and fun!

Warm And A Bit Wet!
Although the wet is just a few misty drops and the warm is a very pleasant low 30’s; in fact, the calm winds and three inches of very malleable fresh snow along with those warm temps all come together to make yet another great day for a Nordic ski!

Today at Trail Creek the Husky made a very early morning start, covering nearly every trail in the 15K+ network.  In addition to the universal single skate/classic pass, double passes occurred in the fields, Armin’s, Moose Loop, and Animal Farm.  Double classic tracks were also imprinted on many of the field trails.  The warm temps facilitated a firm set which should result in fast conditions as long as temps don’t go too high.  The elk have been very active in the Armin’s Moose Loop area so you might find a few tracks on top of today’s grooming passes.

Wyoming High School racing continues today in Lander, yesterday’s results have been posted here (with some great times by our racers), with more to be posted after racing wraps up today.

Groomer’s choice for today is Mug’s Meadow.

Shooting Star

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 1/13
It’s Friday the 13th and Nordic conditions are scary good! Expect warmer temperatures and light snow showers through Monday. Please note that the snowcat/pistenbully’s joystick for controlling the front plow blade malfunction today and we should have a new joystick here sometime next week. With the current forecast, skiers likely won’t notice any difference with conditions while we wait on the part. Where the blade is vital, is during drifty/heavy snow events or when icy conditions develop, and we’ll send additional updates if this occurs. Daily grooming will continue as normal, just we won’t be able to aggressively use our front blade for several days. Overall, skiing should be very enjoyable.

Please help support trail grooming in GTNP by donating to the Grand Teton National Park Foundation. It’s easy and encouraged. All you need to do is visit: GTNPF.org/donate/ and leave the comment “Nordic” in the designation section. There is the opportunity to leave a one time gift or reoccurring monthly donations in any amount.
