Abby Warner joins the Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance as executive director
The Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance (JHNA) is pleased to appoint Abby Warner as its new executive director. Abby will work with the JHNA Board of Directors and its team to lead its mission to provide information, broaden awareness, and expand access to Jackson Hole/Teton Valley’s extensive winter trails for Nordic skiing, fat biking, snowshoeing, and other human-powered winter trail recreation.
Come meet Abby at the Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance Free Annual Event at Turpin Meadow Ranch tomorrow!
Prior to joining the Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance, Abby held key leadership positions with the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) in the Yukon Territory and Teton Valley, Idaho. Abby has volunteered her time locally as a board member with Teton ValleyTrails and Pathways, Teton Valley Community School / Mountain Academy of Teton Science Schools and the Grand Targhee Ski and Snowboard Foundation. An active Nordic, backcountry and alpine skier, mountain biker, and hiker, she has served as a team parent and race volunteer for Nordic and mountain biking teams.
The Teton Ridge Classic is Today
There will be a 1km option for any youngsters who would like to race, but need a shorter distance than 4km.
Here are the details:
- There is NO RACER / NO SPECTATOR parking at Mike Harris. (There is an option to ski over to Mike Harris from Moose Creek Ranch for those who would like to get there on their own.)
- on site registration for 1km option ONLY will be 9-11:20am at Moose Creek Ranch 2733 E 10800 S, Victor, ID. It’s free!
- a shuttle will be available for 1km racers and parents. It will leave from Moose Creek Ranch at 11:40am and 11:55am.
- The kids’ race is scheduled to start at 12:30pm after most (or all?) of the 16km skiers are finished.
More updates:
- There is no day of race registration (except for the 1km option). Racers who are signed up will receive another email Thursday night with more details on bib pick up, parking, after event, etc.
- The organizing committee has decided that the 16km course will be two laps of the 8km. The decision is due to the single track section being too icy to be safe. Next year! and the 8km loop is amazing and doing it two times is twice as nice.
Reason #1 to Attend the Winter Trails Event of the Season
This event is dedicated to bringing together the Wydaho winter trails community. Whether you’re a Nordic skier, a fat biker, a snowshoer, or an early morning groomer, we all share the joy of exploring winter trails.
Whether you’re a winter trail walker, a dog owner, a parent introducing their kids to the hobby, a ski coach, or a pair of friends relishing an afternoon ski, you’re a part of this community.
While we may have diverse ways of navigating winter trails, our common bond is enjoying the outdoors on public land. Despite our differences, we find unity in this shared connection. That’s why we’re passionate about what we do—to foster community, provide information, and raise awareness of the trails in Jackson Hole and Teton Valley.

Kick, glide and pedal Sunday with JH Nordic
An article about the free winter trails event by JH News & Guide
A celebration of non-motorized winter trail use and community, Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance returns to Turpin Meadow Ranch for a full day of demos, good eats and winter athletes this Sunday.
Last year’s Free Ski, Fat Bike and Snowshow Day event saw 600 participants. JH Nordic Alliance’s board chair and founder Nancy Leon expects this year’s turnout to meet that and more, especially with the number of new partners invited to participate.
Trail Creek
Grooming As Needed
Last Update: 1/5
A Good Start!
A day in which the grooming department had planned on hauling snow onto the trails turned into a full on grooming day. Conditions this morning at Trail Creek were one to two inches of fresh snow with moderate drifting going on in the open areas. In order to catch the snow that was there and form some corduroy to catch a little more, two to three quick passes of the Ginzu groomer covered pretty much every trail recently groomed.
In addition to the skate grooming, fresh classic tracks (which had mostly drifted in) were laid in the Close Field, Armin’s, and (first of the year) Animal Farm. At the end of grooming there was still some light drifting happening, but the winds had diminished substantially since earlier in the morning.
The snow refresh, while not yet full winter perfect, has made for some quite nice skiing conditions, a perfect excuse for a “kicking off early, TGIF Nordic ski”!

Staff went up Game Creek on Saturday. Weekend storm was a bust. Snowmobile and pull behind took a real beating so we pulled out before getting into the sunny areas. We need 3-4” of wet snow or more fluffy snow to keep grooming.

Cache Creek Singletrack
Groomed by Friends of Pathways
Grooming As Needed
Last Update: 12/10
We groomed the Cache Creek road to Noker Mine and upper Hagen from bridge 5 to 2. The lower trails are still a little thin on snow, especially under the trees, but are still compact enough to use for now. We will keep snowshoeing around and packing things in until there is enough snow to take the roller through.
Please help support trail grooming for the Cache Creek Single track trails by donating to the Friends of Pathways. Visit: friendsofpathways.org/donate/ and leave the comment “Grooming” in the campaign section.

Skiing is great today! Skating is really nice with a few rough corners but overall amazing. Finishing up a ginzu groom the outer loop now. Conditions will get even better as the sun warms things up a bit today. Snow is in the forecast beginning this weekend!!
Shooting Star
Grooming As Needed
Last Update: 1/5
Rumors of snow are starting to happen! Look for light snow of 1-2” over the weekend, which should help freshen up the currently open sections. Despite the new snow, early season conditions persist and select trails will continue to remain closed for the time being. Outlook is calling for larger amounts of “dry/light” snowfall as frigid cold front arrives around Tuesday. Once heavier snow arrives, the trails will likely go through an awkward transitional phase, as snowfall amounts and drifting could be significant enough to make snowmobile grooming very difficult, yet not enough snow to utilize the Pistenbully snowcat. Next update will be Monday 1/8. Enjoy and let hope lots of snow next week!
- Trail conditions are early season. Please ski with caution as the snow profile is extremely thin.
- Walking is not allowed.
- No classic tracks will be set, and sporadic bare/brushy/exposed areas may be present.
- Grooming frequencies will be as needed to preserve the track.
- Sled Hill is Closed. Needs ample snow (2FT).
- Temporary closures of the Nordic Course may be needed until additional snow accumulates if severe melt occurs.
- Small game/scavenger animals may be present throughout the whole course. Use extra caution when skiing with dogs.

We received a few inches of snow on Thursday night into Friday day. Things are on the soft side now but with all of the attention the trails are getting and tonight’s cold lows they should firm up nicely. We did multiple ginzu passes on everything Friday morning and will plan to keep lapping everything with the ginzu early Saturday. As trails firm back up we will hopefully be laying classic track down everywhere this weekend in preparation for the annual free JH Nordic alliance event on Sunday – we hope to see you there! The riverside and lower pasture single track are in and were rolled on Friday.
TMR is open to all for skiing, lunch, Nordic lessons, and tours! Call the office (307) 543-2000 or visit our website to book your adventure and/or meal! Check out our live webcam for current conditions.

TRC race at Mike Harris Saturday! 1.5″ of fluff this morning! Set a double classic on Yeti uphill section (counter clockwise). No classic on campground upper loop…too thin! In all, the course groomed out well. Planning to do final race groom tonight or early tomorrow morning, depending on snowfall. Enjoy the fresh snow!
The singletrack trails need more new snow before we can do much more to them to make them less sketchy. Please be patiaient and consider other options for fat bike riding. Some recommendations from local riders are valley roads in the afternoons, Horseshoe-packsaddle road, Aspen trial and Jackpine-Pinonchle rd.
Please note the USFS dog closure policy Dec 1st – April 15th at this venue.

Current condition update: The Driggs track is packed and being used as a shuffle ski, walking and fat tire venue. We are waiting for more snow to effectively groom.
