Après Ski with the Best Food in Teton Valley

You may have heard about the food scene in Jackson Hole, WY, but did you know another foodie mecca is on the west side of Teton Pass? As our community has grown and expanded over the years, more and more restaurants have opened in Victor and Driggs. Whether you live on the Idaho side, are visiting Grand Targhee, or are taking to the trails in Teton Valley for the day, it’s worth staying for the food.

New Free Nordic Trail in Teton Village: Gray Meadow

We are excited to announce the revival of a favorite Nordic ski trail in Teton Village. Thanks to the partnership of the Snake River Ranch and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, and with the community connection of the Jackson Hole Nordic Alliance, there is now a groomed 2.1 mile trail you can ski for free.

The Gray Meadow trail, in the delightful meadow formerly home to the Cowboy Nordic Trail, is an easy gentle trail with big Teton views. The track is groomed for skate and classic skiers are welcome; no bikes or dogs on the ski trail. In this shared use meadow, please take care to ski on the Nordic trail and not venture west onto the dog sled or sleigh ride trails. Check out the trail map and full description below.

Groundhog Day!
Well, technically groundhogs don’t live in Wyoming although they are actually a member of the marmot family being designated Marmota monax.  If our native Yellow-bellied marmot (Marmota flaviventris) was to venture out today, he would not have seen his shadow.  Early spring?   A warm dry Wyoming winter can transition to a snow monster in the blink of an eye and if your eye has been focusing on the latest forecasts, snow is heading our way for the foreseeable future with even a winter weather advisory for the near future.

While we’re speaking of adorable critters, Cranky the Moose has been generating a bit of conversation in our local Nordic community.  He was spotted today in the Animal Farm area, hanging with some of his buds, the grooming department is happy to report that he seems to be settling down to winter at Trail Creek and was more interested in trimming the shrubbery than chasing the Husky.

As to grooming, that was happening as well today.  There was actually an initial pass with the Ginzu, the two missions being placing the remaining signs and grooming through the Mug’s Meadow gate.  Hot in its tail, the Husky made the rounds today as well, covering pretty much every trail.  With mostly crisp classic tracks already existing and freshly falling snow, the focus was on skate lanes except for the narrow sections.  As of report time about a half inch has fallen and is continuing to fall.  Skiing should be fun in the fresh snow.

Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.

Once the fog lifts the track will be in awesome condition! It’s a little “fast” right now, but when the sun hits it, it will be perfect.

We groom approximately 16km of track for both skate and classic daily. We have a full retail and rental shop. We offer lessons daily. Call us with questions and to book lessons: (307) 732-4130. To keep our track in pristine shape for skiing we do not allow dogs, walking, snowshoeing, or fatbikes.

Shooting Star

Last Update: 2/2
Following the well above average temperatures this week, skiers may encounter some areas of settling and unevenness on the track. Fortunately, the forecast predicts some possible snow showers starting this evening and continuing through next Thursday. The trails remain in good shape despite the warm weather we have encountered this week and ski conditions should remain favorable following the predicted snow showers. Next update will be Monday 2/5.

  • Trail conditions are variable and thin areas persist.
  • Walking is not allowed.
  • Sled Hill is Open.
  • Classic Tracks are set where snow allows.

Turpin Meadow Ranch

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 2/2
Grooming operations are paused until we get more snow… luckily the forecast says snow is on the way and the groomer may be back out as early as Saturday. Trail conditions are spring-like and variable. There are some lovely sections of hard and fast trail but there are thin sections also. Biking has been fabulous and the wildlife has really close to the ranch which has made for some magical moments.

TMR is open to the public daily for skiing, meals, Nordic lessons, and tours! Call the office (307) 543-2000 or visit our website to book your adventure! Check out our live webcam for current conditions.

Please help support trail grooming in GTNP by donating to the Grand Teton National Park Foundation. It’s easy and encouraged. All you need to do is visit: GTNPF.org/donate/ and leave the comment “Nordic” in the designation section. There is the opportunity to leave a one time gift or reoccurring monthly donations in any amount.

Gave yeti and campground a quick touch up 2/1. It was tough to reset the classic track in places but it turned out well in places too. Looking forward to this weekends storm. A bit more soft snow will give us more to work with. Conditions should be firm and fast!

Singletrack: 2/2
Team – I headed out to check the SVT and it was raining and still pretty warm. We are going to hold off grooming the Grumpy’s/Hillbender loop tonight. We will try to find time to get it if the weather cooperates over the next few days.

Please note the USFS dog closure policy Dec 1st – April 15th at this venue.

Took a few passes on the skate track with the Ginzu. Didn’t help much. We could use some snow.

Driggs School Loops

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Last Updated: 2/1
Reset skate and classic Wednesday night. If you get out early on Thursday you will have fast, smooth skating. The classic track did not turn out great – the snow is too hard – but it is mostly usable. Snow is very thin going up/down the hills to the upper loop. Watch for rocks. Who would think we would be crust cruising in January? Pray for snow!

Please pick up your trash and dog pop with the supplied Mutt Mitt station.

Alta Nordic Track

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday
Last Updated: 1/31
Reset skate lane so it should freeze tonight and be in good condition in the morning. I was unable to reset the classic tracks. I tried but was making them worse. Classic tracks are in generally poor condition- melted out and glazed. Hopefully we will get some more snow and we can refresh them.
