Skiing at Trail Creek? Notes About Parking & Traffic

We are getting into the heart of the season with lots of snow and cold temperatures! All of our age groups are up and running now which means that Trail Creek is crowded on high traffic days. I wanted to reiterate the guidelines around parking and the road at Trail Creek, and also stress patience and kindness when coming to practice. A little patience and kindness can go a long way when there is so much going on at once.

• Please do NOT stop while pointing west in front of the cabin when coming in from the highway. This creates blockages and unsafe situations.

• Please drive ALL THE WAY to the end of cars before turning around.

• Please do NOT walk down or turn around in the driveway that runs in front of the Cabin. This is an emergency access issue for our neighbors.

• Nordic skiing down the old pass road is dangerous. Please don’t let your kids ski around and in front of cars.

And please just remember to be kind! Everyone is trying their best to be safe and get to practice on time. Thank you!

Trail Creek

Last Update: 1/19
Balmy!

As of report time, the weather station in the cabin is reporting 33.6ºF, a pretty big change from the sub-zero temps a few days ago.  The result of the warm temps and yesterday’s nearly a foot of snow is that the trails are in pretty good shape today at Trail Creek.

Today’s Husky grooming covered nearly every trail in the network with multiple passes in Woolsey Woods, Animal Farm, and parts of the fields.   Classic tracks are either still quite pristine from yesterday’s grooming or have been reset.  The result is that both classic skiers and skaters should find some great skiing today!

Our resident critters have been doing a bit of deleterious work on the trails you might notice if you get to take a ski today.   The squirrels have been enjoying the heat wave, proceeding to drop lots of tidbits on the trails, the moose count, while still pretty low, has still resulted in a few moose tracks on the snow, and our elk herd is as numerous as ever and while not as big as moose tracks, they can make a lot of them.  Never to fear, they pretty much chill out through the day so you won’t see much impact on your Nordic outing.

Many of our high school racers are going at it in Pinedale today, results are supposed to be posted on this website.  Colter Winter Sports will be around for a while mid-day, but the afternoon’s practice should be on the light side.

Groomer’s choice for today is Woolsey Woods.

Shooting Star

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 1/19
Trails remain in good shape after recent winds and snowy weather. Temperatures will be 5-10 degrees above average for the foreseeable future, which will cause some settling on the track to occur throughout the day. Because this settling effect, there may be a few awkward/choppy sections as the snow profile changes/evolves from packed-powder to hard-packed. Outlook is calling for daily light snow showers or rain/snow mix to occur through Monday. Next update will be Tuesday 1/23. Enjoy!

  • Trail conditions are early season as thin areas persist.
  • Walking is not allowed.
  • Sled Hill is Open.
  • Classic Tracks are set where snow allows.

Groomed all the loops and cutoffs. Set the skate lane and did not set the classic track due to snow temps by the end of the groom. It got too warm and conditions were deteriorating.

Teton Reserve parking lot works best when you park in the configuration in this image. Please refer to the photo for visual representation. Feel free to be a community member and coach each other on best practices. Park in the red highlights. NO PAKING IN THE GREEN HIGHLIGHTS.

Reestablished the walking path and took two laps with the roller for a skate set. Temperatures were getting too warm, causing the roller to clump. Not the greatest skate conditions since the track is a little wavy. Will try to smooth it out over the next few days.
