Last Update: 12/9

Running Full Speed Ahead!

After a day of no grooming due to working on the Husky, grooming is back in a big way.  The bad news on the Husky is that it will be out of commission for some time with the most likely cause being that an engine defect has surfaced which needs to be addressed.  The good news is that Prinoth is working as hard as they can to make things good for us and our skiers.  Repairs will be initiated very soon and in the meantime the forecast of cool conditions and light snowfall should allow our snow machine to do a pretty good job of maintaining the nice bases already established by the Husky.

In the past 24 hours Trail Creek has received 4-6 inches of snow.  The first pass of the day was with the Ginzu, laying in fresh classic tracks pretty much everywhere.  The snow was just a bit too deep for the Ginzu to do a good job on the skate lanes so at that point our new roller finished the day with multiple passes on all of those same trails.  90% of our trails received at least two roller passes plus Ginzu classic tracks.

Look for early morning Ginzu grooming tomorrow with around three inches of fresh snow on Sunday.

Groomer’s choice for today is Moose Loop.

Shooting Star

Grooming Schedule: Sunday, Monday, & Saturday
Last Update: 12/9
More snow is expected to fall each day through Monday. Expect breezy conditions Friday afternoon, followed by calmer & cold conditions. The Sled Hill will officially be open Saturday and grooming frequency on this area will be done as needed throughout the season… Coverage on the sled hill is great for sledding, but still on the thin side for grooming more than once or twice per week. Overall, skiing should be enjoyable over this weekend, but please be advised that winds could pick up Friday afternoon creating drifty conditions. Next update will be on Monday 12/12.

Ongoing Trail Notes

  • No Walking Allowed
  • Sled Hill Closed Until Saturday 12/10/2022
  • Early Season Conditions Exists (Thin/Bare Spots)

Reminder we’ll be training new staff on grooming equipment over the next couple of weeks. Expect grooming to be ongoing through 10am until operators become more experienced. Thanks and I’ll send a more formal update later today.

Last Updated: 12/10
Classic Track: Not Set | Fat Bike Trails: Open | Snowshoe Trails: Open
Nordic Groomed 12/8, Fat Bike Groomed 12/3.
With a light storm system hitting yesterday afternoon, we saw a fresh 2 inches of powder across the resort. A similar system is predicted to roll through tonight into Sunday morning. Heading into next week, we’ll see a cold and dry pattern.  The fat bike trails should be rideable with 3 PSI in tires.

Remember, singletracks will be closed when there is more than 3 inches of snow in a 24 hour period.

No grooming at Alta today, but Teton Canyon, Driggs, Sherman Park, and Teton Reserve are all in good shape. We are looking to add Saturday grooming to Alta this winter if we can find a willing and capable volunteer. Please reach out to nick@tvtap.org if you are interested.

Driggs

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday & Friday
Last Updated: 12/9
Skate: Set | Classic: Not Set

Smoothed out all trails with drag. The fresh snow should make for excellent skiing. More snow needed to set a classic track.

Sherman Park

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday & Friday
Last Updated: 12/9

Skate: Set | Classic: Not Set
Gave everything a fresh roll with a half inch of new. Did not reset classic as there was not enough new snow but the track is still holding up well. Pay attention by school and rodeo area as it bumpy and could have some rocks in that area. Still grass and twigs sticking through on the track but should be skiing well! Will try and get out this weekend to pack it down if we get a few inches. Cheers

Teton Canyon

Grooming Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday
Last Updated: 12/10

Saturday: Plan to use the Ginzu this morning to groom out the new snow that fell on Friday. Expect both skate and classic tracks to turn out well, if not a bit soft. Should finish by 9am. Road and parking lot remain in good shape.

Trail Etiquette: Please keep your dogs leashed in the parking lot and be sure to clean up after them!
