Join Us This Weekend!

Do you like Nordic skiing in Grand Teton National Park? Do you like cookies? There is an opportunity for both on Sunday December 11 from 1-4PM at the Murie Ranch! And, we are delighted to report that the first grooming of the inner park road happened yesterday. An ideal plan for tomorrow: ski or snowshoe the inner park road with loved ones and then share and take home some sweet treats with other community members.

Help Protect Wintering Wildlife in Grand Teton

Winter has arrived in Grand Teton National Park – an excellent time for recreation in the snow but also a challenging time for wildlife in and around the Tetons. Wildlife specialists are asking visitors to avoid disturbing animals by following all winter closures and voluntarily avoiding bighorn sheep winter zones. In all other areas of the park, visitors should still give wildlife plenty of space by maintaining 100 yards from bears and wolves, and 25 yards from other animals. Visitors can safely enjoy watching wildlife by being respectful of their need for space, staying clear of their sensitive habitats and allowing them to maintain their vital energy reserves.

We Want to Hear From You!

Now that there are many Nordic options available we at JH Nordic are hoping that you are getting out to enjoy all of the winter trails while recreating responsibly. We would love to highlight your adventures and your photos in trip reports. If you’re willing to share your thoughts and photos please email your stories to info@jhnordic.com. And don’t worry, you don’t have to share locations if you’d like to keep your favorite spot to yourself.

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 12/9

Work In Progress!
The good news today is that as much as possible is being done to figure out what has caused the hiccup in our Husky.  The technician has been hard at it, attempting to diagnose what is going on.  The bad news is that supporting the technician has resulted in no grooming getting done.

However, it would still be a great day for a lovely rustic ski.  About three inches of snow has fallen so far on our nice firm bases, skaters should still be able to get a really good workout for most of the day and classic skiers will move quite nicely while still being able to enjoy the lovely quiet snowfall.

Look for Ginzu or roller grooming tomorrow depending on progress with repairs and how much snow falls.

Groomer’s choice for today is to be very thankful for your patience.

Shooting Star

Grooming Schedule: Sunday, Monday, & Saturday
Last Update: 12/9
More snow is expected to fall each day through Monday. Expect breezy conditions Friday afternoon, followed by calmer & cold conditions. The Sled Hill will officially be open Saturday and grooming frequency on this area will be done as needed throughout the season… Coverage on the sled hill is great for sledding, but still on the thin side for grooming more than once or twice per week. Overall, skiing should be enjoyable over this weekend, but please be advised that winds could pick up Friday afternoon creating drifty conditions. Next update will be on Monday 12/12.

Ongoing Trail Notes

  • No Walking Allowed
  • Sled Hill Closed Until Saturday 12/10/2022
  • Early Season Conditions Exists (Thin/Bare Spots)

Reminder we’ll be training new staff on grooming equipment over the next couple of weeks. Expect grooming to be ongoing through 10am until operators become more experienced. Thanks and I’ll send a more formal update later today.

Last Updated: 12/9

Skate: Set | Classic: Not Set
Gave everything a fresh roll with a half inch of new. Did not reset classic as there was not enough new snow but the track is still holding up well. Pay attention by school and rodeo area as it bumpy and could have some rocks in that area. Still grass and twigs sticking through on the track but should be skiing well! Will try and get out this weekend to pack it down if we get a few inches. Cheers
