Women’s Triathlon Title to Jackson local, Annika Peacock

Father-daughter winter trails enthusiasts! Annika and Brent Peacock, as Annika gets ready for the bike leg of her sprint triathlon. Both competed, and stood on the top step of their respective podiums.

Congratulations to born and raised Jackson local, Annika Peacock, who took home the women’s title in her first race at the USA Winter Triathlon Sprint-Distance National Championships recently in Breckenridge, Co. The post race quote captured by the usatriathlon.org seemed both quintessentially Annika, and a fitting extension of what we like so much in our Nordic community, “It’s a little bit different and there aren’t many people, but the people that are [winter] athletes are just really good people,” Peacock said. “You get to have fun in the snow, so what more could you ask for really?”

Good job having fun and going really fast in the snow Annika!

We encourage winter trail users to support all of our grooming teams across Jackson Hole and Teton Valley. When possible please consider a donation to the trails you frequent. Please leave a comment such as “grooming” or “Nordic” in the designation or campaign section.

Leaping for Leap Day!
Word was sent to the grooming department that the way to celebrate Leap Day was to have one of the biggest leaps/jumps ever made on the Nordic X course, so always grateful for missions from coaches, the Husky piled, and piled, and piled some more snow, making a pretty darn big jump at the end of the course.  If you’re looking for an especially big challenge today, give it a run and see just how much air you can get!  Have fun but also be careful.

If the challenge you’re looking for today is simply a great Nordic ski, that is definitely a Leap Day option.  In addition to making jumps, the Husky covered most every trail in the network today.  Classic tracks were either in good shape or reset, multiple passes occurred in the fields, Homesite, Suicide, Olympic, and Animal Farm which had all received heavy traffic yesterday.  As of report time temps are right around freezing with really nice skiing conditions.

Thanks to Coach Kirsys for sending in the amazing Teewinot picture.  She and the rest of the younger teams have about two weeks of the season yet to go.  Looks like another big shot of snow heading our way over the next couple of days with forecast amounts ranging up to 21-35 inches, impressive if it comes.

Groomer’s choice for today is the Nordic X Course.

We will be in an adventurous weather pattern this week as just about all forms of stormy conditions and temperatures are expected. Keep up with the hourly forecast as skiers can expect dramatic swings in temperatures, rains/heavy snows, and windy/drifty conditions. Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday appear to be the calmest days, with heavy snow returning Thursday. We’ll continue to do our best with grooming during this week’s evolving conditions and again would advise skiers to be prepared for a multitude of Nordic conditions this week. Stay safe and enjoy!

The Drift Run, Fat Bike, or Ski

March 8-10, 2024
Pinedale, Wyoming

For the last 100 years Wyoming cowboys have “drifted” their cattle each fall out of the mountains where they go to to the desert for the winter. In this epic event racers experience Wyoming– under Wyoming’s terms–Wyoming style. Choose a discipline–Ski, Bike, Run– then set out to complete the course before mother nature finds a way to finish it for you. It is still very much winter up here in March. The temperatures can be sub zero, the wind can be relentless, and snowfall can be measured in feet.
