Article from Buckrail.
The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Riverton, Wy., has issued a winter storm watch for western Wyoming, in effect from Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, through Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 10.
NWS forecasts that the Teton and Gros Ventre Mountains along with the Salt River and Wyoming ranges could see total snow accumulations of 10 to 18 inches, with potential wind gusts as high as 50 mph. Snowfall is expected to be most intense Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Similar conditions are expected in eastern Idaho.
A Great Weekend In Jackson Hole and Teton Valley
This was a wonderful weekend to be a resident or visitor in Jackson Hole and Teton Valley, especially if you enjoy, or are curious about, cross country skiing, fatbiking, snowshoeing, winter trails, and public lands. The following is primarily a recap of all the fun that was had on both sides of the Tetons this past weekend. If you weren’t able to join in at any of the events don’t fret – there is still more winter, more snow in the forecast, and lots more opportunities to recreate responsibly.
A Great Day For A Race!
On Saturday the Teton Ridge Classic had over 125 registered racers. It was a great day on the Southern Valley Trails in Victor, ID groomed that morning with the new Snow Rabbit. Congratulations to the race organizers, TVTAP, and to the racers as well!
A Great Day For A Community Event!
The Annual JH Nordic Alliance Free Ski, Fatbike, and Snowshoe Event at Turpin Meadow Ranch offered so much fun for all. A diverse crowd of over 650 participants and many of their furry friends (dogs) showed up to enjoy their public lands (Bridger-Teton National Forest) and try a wide variety of human powered activities. This event is what is because of the community involved, that includes you our readers! A huge thank you to all of the JH Nordic Alliance sponsors and members, we would not have been able to facilitate the merriment without you all! Thanks to Turpin Meadow Ranch for hosting! And thank you to all who came up and tried something new, our hope is you made positive lasting memories.
Trail Creek

Race Week!
One of the biggest races to ever happen at Trail Creek will commence this upcoming Friday. The three day Johnny Curtis Memorial Junior National Qualifier and Wyoming High School Race will showcase some fantastic racing by Intermountain and High Plains Division teams as well as Wyoming High School teams. Friday will be high school only with Saturday and Sunday racing being IMD. Volunteers are welcome, shuttles will be running from Stilson on race days and the course will be closed to the public on race days. Click on the above link for more information.
With a cool start to the day, things have been a bit quiet so far today at Trail Creek although that will change this afternoon when the teams descend en masse. Extensive grooming occurred today with double Ginzu passes on most woods trails and a Husky loop around the Close Field. Cle’s climb, although still pretty thin, returned to the agenda today for the first time in a while. Yesterday’s classic tracks in the Close Field, Armin’s, and Animal Farm are still skiing nicely.
The forecast is quite impressive for the upcoming week; it looks like the majority of the sun will be today. While the recent sunshine has been nice, it will be great to build our bases and get our skiing into “full winter mode”.
Groomer’s choice for today is to check out the great view from Cle’s Climb.

Last Update: 12/11
Staff went up Game Creek on Saturday. Weekend storm was a bust. Snowmobile and pull behind took a real beating so we pulled out before getting into the sunny areas. We need 3-4” of wet snow or more fluffy snow to keep grooming.

Cache Creek Singletrack
Groomed by Friends of Pathways
Grooming As Needed
Last Update: 12/10
We groomed the Cache Creek road to Noker Mine and upper Hagen from bridge 5 to 2. The lower trails are still a little thin on snow, especially under the trees, but are still compact enough to use for now. We will keep snowshoeing around and packing things in until there is enough snow to take the roller through.

Conditions are looking good! Come out and ski before the snow arrives tomorrow. We should be able to have our snowcat out on the trails in the next couple of days (if the snow shows up as forecasted!?).

Grooming As Needed
Last Update: 1/8
It appears we’ll finally be receiving some much-needed snow throughout this whole week! As mentioned in our last update, anticipate that conditions could be on the awkward side as our snow profile will likely go through a transitional phase, where snowfall amounts and drifting could be significant enough to make snowmobile grooming very difficult, yet not enough snow to utilize the Pistenbully snowcat. Also, we will continue to focus on grooming the same early-season course (see attached map) for the time being. Once enough snow has accumulated and the storms have settled, we’ll then need several days to prep the currently closed areas prior to deciding if they are safe to open. Fingers crossed for lots of snow! Again, expect storm skiing Tuesday-Friday, so prepare accordingly and use caution. Next update will be Friday 1/12 or earlier if conditions severely change. Enjoy!
- Trail conditions are early season. Please ski with caution as the snow profile is extremely thin.
- Walking is not allowed.
- No classic tracks will be set, and sporadic bare/brushy/exposed areas may be present.
- Grooming frequencies will be as needed to preserve the track.
- Sled Hill is Closed. Needs ample snow (2FT).
- Small game/scavenger animals may be present throughout the whole course. Use extra caution when skiing with dogs.

Thanks to all who joined us for the annual JH Nordic Alliance Free Ski, Fatbike, and Snowshoe day – it was so much fun and we hope you all come back and join us on a more normal day at the ranch too.
The grooming Monday morning was done with the ginzu, multiple passes in the flats and a single best pass of the hills. We are anticipating quite a bit of snow in the coming days so it may be storm skiing this week, what a nice change! The plan is to allow the hills to fill in with fresh snow for a couple of days, we will still be grooming the flats throughout the week and will buff the hills (hopefully full of new snow) on Friday.
TMR is open to the public daily for skiing, meals, Nordic lessons, and tours! Call the office (307) 543-2000 or visit our website to book your adventure! Check out our live webcam for current conditions.

I went out and tried to take the roller on the little bit of fresh snow we received. There is still not enough snow to safely groom and equipment was just bouncing off of rocks. I went around the very short entry loop from the parking lot twice before realizing it was not going to help. Please don’t be fooled when you see the groomed track near the lot. It doesn’t go far and has lots of sticks, rocks, and weeds protruding. fingers crossed for more snow!
Please pick up your trash and dog pop with the supplied Mutt Mitt station.
