Tips To Be A Good Steward

Trip Report: XC Skiing In The Deep To Get Our Tree

With a Christmas tree permit from the Forest Service and some hot chocolate we headed out Rosie’s Ridge on our Fischer Off Tracks. We left the trailhead a little after 3pm and skied in about 1.5 miles. The snow was deep and we were breaking trail the whole way in. We found a lovely little sub alpine fir that we hauled out like a team of mules, each of us hooked up to our sled and pulling hard. We were rewarded with frosty hair (it was 4 degrees when we returned to the trailhead), a beautiful tree, sore strong muscles, and a sunset with a moonrise.

Trail Creek

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 12/3

Quiet Saturday!
It is a great day to come out for a Nordic ski at Trail Creek today.  The sun is shining and after a sub-zero start to the day, the temps are climbing rapidly into that sweet Nordic zone.  The latest temps are live on the Trail Creek web page.

Today’s grooming covered almost every trail except for the East Fields (hopefully permission will soon be granted to go there) with Husky grooming.  The sunny Close Field received multiple passes with double classic tracks while the rest of the trails received a single pass with fresh classic tracks on the narrower sections or as needed.  Conditions are firming nicely and skiers should encounter nice conditions most everywhere.

New this year, each day after grooming has been completed, a plot of the day’s grooming will be uploaded to the web site Nordic Pulse.  In addition to reading about each day, you will be able to get a visualization of the route groomed.  Just zoom in on the map and select Trail Creek Nordic.

Groomer’s choice for today is Cle’s Climb.

Shooting Star

Grooming Schedule: Sunday, Monday, & Saturday
Last Update: 12/3
We’re officially open! All Nordic trails have been groomed and classic tracks are set where conditions allow. Anticipate softer & slow conditions due to the recent snow and cold temperatures. Early season conditions persist (thin/rocky sections) and there will be some awkward sections where coverage is thin (example along hole 2). More snow is forecasted again this Monday. Reminder NO WALKING is allowed!

  • The Sled hill will begin to be prepped around Wednesday next week and then needs several days to firmly set up. As of today, we are planning to open the Sled Hill on Saturday December 10th.
  • Lastly, we will be training new staff on our grooming equipment over the next several weeks. Anticipate that grooming equipment could be out in the field through 10 am until operators become more experienced.

Thanks and cheers to the start of another Nodic season! Have fun out there as skiing should be very enjoyable for early December. Next update will be on Monday 12/5.
