Deep Snow PSA

With the huge amount of snow that fell in the couple of days there have been road closures, challenges for groomers to access trails to attempt to even push snow, delayed grooming, high avalanche danger, and risk of deep snow immersion by falling into a hole or tree well.

We ask our community to be patient as scheduled groomed trails may have delays. There is high probability of drifts and rapid snow cover on of top groomed trails. Expect parking lots to be full (due to snow piles). And please be alert to steep slopes above winter trails, take care especially if you venture off trail. Be sure to ski with a partner in case of a fall into deep snow. Dress warmly, with waterproof outerwear. Be safe out there and know that in a couple of days the groomed Nordic trails will be spectacular.

Trail Creek

Grooming Daily
Last Update: 3/2

WOW!

One of the most impressive storms in some time is hammering away at Trail Creek today!  A couple feet of snow has created a mind boggling winter landscape across our trail network.  After the Husky plowed out a place for the groomer to park today, it did its best, venturing out to as many trails as possible this morning.

Today’s grooming began in the Close Field with about three laps to pack down and push out the snow.  Then grooming journeyed into the woods, covering Woolsey Woods, Moose Poop, Homeward and Outward Bound, and Moose Loop with multiple passes and a single pass on Armin’s.  Finally a couple of passes around the East Fields, and it was time to give up for the day.  Classic tracks were placed on most trails with varying results.  Classic skiing should be pretty nice if you can get out today.

We did actually have a couple of skiers out in the woods today, but for some reason or another, skier traffic has been a bit on the light side this morning.  While we actually had a little sunshine earlier this morning, as of report time, things were raging again.  Snow is forecast to taper off this afternoon and we’ll give grooming another shot tomorrow.

Groomer’s choice for today is enjoying the very deep snow in the woods.

Update 3/2: 2-3ft of snow fell overnight… expect grooming to be ongoing through 10:30am. Skiers should expect soft conditions and windrows/bumps from the excess snow. Winds are likely to pick up around lunch. Enjoy the powder! Stay safe!

Rowdy winter conditions are expected this weekend. Keep up with the hourly forecast if you plan to brave the elements venture out on the Nordic trails. We’ll continue to do our best with recutting the trails each morning but anticipate the track to quickly receive new accumulations and drifting after grooming is complete. In this epic event racers experience Wyoming– under Wyoming’s terms–Wyoming style. Choose a discipline–Ski, Bike, Run– then set out to complete the course before mother nature finds a way to finish it for you. It is still very much winter up here in March. The temperatures can be sub zero, the wind can be relentless, and snowfall can be measured in feet.
