Trail Creek

New Years Eve Storm!
Another big dump is just around the corner here at Trail Creek. While snow forecasts have been varying a bit, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see another foot of the lovely white stuff over the next few days. As of 10 AM there is already some really light snow calmly drifting towards the trails with the temperature still on the chilly side at -18ºC/-3ºF.
The images above are a couple more good ones from last Saturday’s Betty Woolsey race. Many more good images will be happening again next Saturday January 4th here at Trail Creek for the Sandbag Freestyle race starting at 10:30 AM. The general course will be a 10 K race with the map being posted tomorrow if all goes according to plan. As of report time today there is still flexibility in the course layout so if you have any wild ideas or desires about where you would like to race, email the grooming department. Don’t forget about the JH Nordic Alliance’s 4th Annual Free Ski, Fat Bike, & Snowshoe Day on Sunday as well.
It seems as if the moose have been moving in over the last couple of days with 5 confirmed sightings during this morning’s grooming. Two were actually sleeping near the cabin with the other scattered about. Don’t forget to give them the right of way as you are enjoying their presence.
Today’s grooming was Pisten Bully best line skate grooming of nearly every trail with a few fresh classic tracks here and there. The heavy dusting of snow we have received so far has done a nice job of freshening the tracks, making skiing quite nice wherever you go or whatever your technique.
Groomer’s choice for today is Armin’s.

Just like the Grand, our trails are SHARP and ON POINT! We groomed last night (12/27) so the trails would set perfectly overnight with the below zero temps. They are fast and looking prime! Come out to TMR this weekend! FREE SKI DAY is Jan. 5! Bring your dog!

6:40am: The levee is groomed and in good shape although the classic track is a bit shallow since the track is very firm. I am starting Stilson shortly and should be done around 9:45.

We have skate and classic track set daily. We still have lesson slots available for next week, but call as soon as possible as they will fill soon. Skiing continues to be fantastic! Our Pistenbully (snowcat) is currently down for repairs and should be running again later next week. In the meantime we’ll continue to groom the skate lanes daily with the snowmobile and ginzu attachment. The classic tracks are still set and should remain great shape, but won’t be touched up again until the snowcat is repaired. Bundle up and enjoy the rest of 2019!

As 2019 comes to an end and a new year begins, we take time to both reflect and look towards the future. Funny, I fondly remember 12″ days this last season here at the Ghee, and I can vividly picture more 12″ days in my near future. What are your 2020 ski the Ghee goals? Whatever it may be, we thank you all for a great year that spanned this season and last and look forward to another memorable one with you. According to NOAA, 2020 may be bringing the blower pow with it – a winter storm warning will begin this evening and remain in effect through Wednesday night.

Be cautious, there are still several moose in the area, saw at least 5 near where Old Road Trail meets Surveyor Park. If encounter moose, suggest turning around and go a different way.
