General Weather – A snowy weekend

Mountain Weather is forecasting that snow is likely for the weekend and into next week with daytime temperatures hovering around freezing. For a detailed daily forecast check out mountainweather.com.

Racing the Betty Woolsey Today? Check out the wax tips from Dan Streubel, local racer & Toko Tech team member.

Forecast/Conditions: Overnight low 17, temperature at start 36, 60 percent chance of snow showers. The Betty Woolsey is taking place after the junior Intermountain Division Opener race. The 2.5k course will have had over 200 junior racers doing multiple laps on the course earlier in the day.

Glidewax: Apply HP Red Hot Wax, scrape and brush, spray on HP Liquid Paraffin Red, let stand overnight, then polish with the Polishing Brush Liquid Paraffin. If you do not have LP, apply BP Blue Hot Wax, scrape and brush, then apply HP Red Hot Wax, scrape and brush.

Important Nordic Notes from our partners!

Betty Woolsey Classic is now freestyle. Due to the current snow conditions, this year’s 10K course will be four laps in the Close Field. Because of the lack of snow, the event will be freestyle this year.

  • There will be very little parking at Trail Creek.  Shuttle buses are running between Stilson and Trail Creek from 7:30am-5:30pm. All racers, spectators, families, siblings, friends, grandparents, fans, please use the shuttle.
  • Start lists and results are at this Zone 4 webpage
  • Course maps and more information is available at the JHSC event page.
  • The course is closed to skiing by the public all day today, however recreational skiers can recreate on the forest trails via the end of the Old Pass Road.

Groomer Update from Friends of Pathways

Photo courtesy of Friends of Pathways

Winter is blowing in, and as the snow stacks up, Friends of Pathways is grooming 12+ miles of winter singletrack in the Cache Creek area – the only free winter singletrack in Jackson Hole.

Currently, all the winter trails are ridable (although thin). Grooming has begun and will go through April, weather depending. If you enjoy using these trails, please give to FOP’s Winter Grooming Campaign!

Thanks to those who have been submitting trip reports! It seems there has been some great wild skiing off track as we wait for more groomed trails to be available. With more snow in the forecast this weekend Nordic areas will start to open, check your daily email from JH Nordic for the most up to date information and inspiration on where to ski.
