Weekend Outlook
A sunny, breezy weekend ahead with lows in the 20’s and highs reaching all the way into the 50’s. Still searching for groomed skiing? Teton Canyon just groomed yesterday and both skate and classic tracks are set up nicely
Another option is to head up into the park for some biking and crust cruising. There’s still lots of snow in the park. Be sure keep track of the temperatures and time your activity when the snow just starts to thaw to get that perfect glide. Happy Spring!
Looking Back at the 2020-21 Nordic Ski Season
In case you missed it, here are ten of our favorite things to look back on from the 2020-21 nordic ski season in Jackson Hole. From being nominated for the Best of Jackson Hole in Cross Country Skiing for best Family Friendly Activity to our community-sourced Trip Reports and Nordic Skiing Master Clinics – take a look at some of our top highlights as we wrap up this winter season and head into spring.
Park Implements Changes on Teton Park Road in Response to Expected Busy Spring
Enjoying the park and getting outside via non-motorized travel on the Teton Park Road between the
Taggart Lake Trailhead and Signal Mountain Lodge is an incredible spring experience for many. Park visitors are
reminded to recreate responsibly, especially during the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, as they enjoy the outdoor
opportunity.
The 14-mile section of the Teton Park Road is currently open to non-motorized travel through Friday, April 30, including walking, bicycling and rollerblading. The road will open to public motor vehicle traffic on Saturday, May 1. Recent recreational use on the Teton Park Road has been very busy. Park staff anticipated a busy spring season on the road and implemented several changes. These changes include increased parking access between the Taggart Lake Trailhead and Cottonwood Picnic Area during peak use, a staffed mobile information trailer, and additional portable restrooms. There will also be increased signage to encourage speed reduction for everyone’s safety.
The mobile information trailer and National Park Service volunteers providing visitor information are supported through generous donations from the Grand Teton National Park Foundation.
April Nature News: Spring has Sprung in Jackson Hole
Provided by Cathy Schill
Hole Hiking Experience
www.holehike.com
Spring arrived early in Jackson Hole bringing weather extremes with single digits in the mornings, big wind, and afternoon highs in the 50’s. March was both drier and colder than average yet the valley snow has melted quickly. Animals are migrating north to summer territories, birds are building nests, and the mornings are filled with bird songs to start the day. Welcome spring!
Tour Suggestion
Warm temperatures have greatly reduced the snow pack. Hard to say what the best activity will be this time of year. Wait to see how each day begins to make your decision. If temperatures drop below freezing at night, you may choose to crust cruise or corn ski. You’ll need to time your activity when the snow just starts to thaw to get the perfect glide. There’s still lots of snow in the north valley and Grand Teton National Park. The inner park road is plowed so it’s the perfect time to bike or rollerblade and enjoy the views. No motorized traffic until May 1 so take advantage of this option.
Backcountry Tips
Remember wildlife closures are in effect until May 1 and the bears are emerging from their winter dens, so be mindful of your travel path and carry bear spray. Also, spring weather can be extremely variable so be prepared for quick weather changes. Happy trails!
Nordic Leg Cancelled – Rendezvous River Sports Karen Oatey PPP Course
The Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club (JHSC) has canceled the cross-country ski leg of the 2021 Rendezvous River Sports Karen Oatey Pole Pedal Paddle (PPP). Warm temperatures have had a major impact on the Nordic course deeming it unfit for use. The PPP event is still taking place Saturday, April 10th.
Even though the Nordic leg is cancelled, we encourage everyone to get out and cheer the teams at various locations (JHMR, Moose-Wilson Road, along the bike route through west jackson to the Snake at South Park bridge, or at the finish line at Astoria).

Thank you!
Thank you to all who make this Nordic adventure happen. Thanks to kids with good attitudes, who listen to your coaches and do their best. Thanks to parents for the herculean effort required to bring this opportunity to your progeny. Thanks to all for dealing with pandemic parking. Thanks to coaches for the long days of training and at races, hours at wax benches, skiing with masks on. And thanks to the community for membership, trail passes, skiing, helping with the new snow cat campaign, and any other form of support that makes this all happen. Thank you!
Today is the last day to ski the private property section of Trail Creek. Skiing should be pretty good all day, starting out very fast with slight softening by late afternoon. The National Forest trails may be skied until the snow is gone, which should last some time

Groomed over the weekend when the temps went from warm to cold and it set up well, I’ll go again if we get a warm freeze day again otherwise its rock solid.
All the shady side stuff should last a while but the sunny side will probably get rotten with the next warm temps.

Thanks for a GREAT season everyone! We successfully navigated the pandemic this season and kept everyone healthy and skiing!
We look forward to seeing you next season which will begin in late November. With global supply shortages still a concern, next season could end up being challenging for gear if you wait too long to purchase it. We’ve already placed orders for Salomon, Alpina, Sporten, Lillsport, Daehlie, Swix, Sauce, and Craft. This gear should be arriving in early November. If you’d like to preorder or special order gear for the season please get in touch with Cody: tetonpinesxc@gmail.com

Done Grooming for the Season
Last Updated: 4/4
Our last grooming of the season was officially performed on Saturday Night 4/3. We’ve had 5 straight days of temperatures in the mid 50’s to low 60’s and the snow profile is now no longer conducive for grooming. Beginning April 12th, all trails will be closed as GCM begins removing snow to expose cart paths and shift gears for the upcoming Golf season. Prior to that date skiing is still welcome, but trails will not be groomed and icy, bare, or rough areas will be very frequent. It’s been a great season for Nordic that has lasted from Thanksgiving 2020 to Easter 2021. Thanks to everyone in the Nordic Shop and all the Nordic participants. Looking forward to another great season next winter!

All of the single track trails are rider packed. All the trails are in relatively good condition with the exception of animal tracks. It is getting a little icy out there after the freeze-thaw cycle and soft in the middle of the day. Your best times are early and late. I was able to use the single track drag on Nemo, Powerline and upper Lady slipper to try to fill in the ruts and animal tracks. I was only moderately successful at doing so. Enjoy the ride.
No dogs December 1 – April 15.
