Wydaho Ride Groomed Winter Challenge with Kait Boyle

Ride our favorite fat biking trails to help fundraising for grooming machines for TVTAP and Friends of Pathways: March 6th to March 27th.

Kait Boyle has partnered with Fitzgerald’s Bicycles to bring awareness to the winter grooming efforts in our communities! For the next three weeks, March 6 to 27 (weather depending), we are challenging you to get out and ride 4 world-class fat biking trail systems: Southern Valley Singletrack System (Victor, ID), Cache Creek Singletrack System (Jackson, WY), Horseshoe-Packsaddle Snowmobile Trail System (Driggs, ID) and Teton Canyon Trail (Alta, WY).

The goal is to ride a route that may not be your usual routine or in an area for the first time, while also bringing awareness to what it takes for these community organizations to keep our winter trails riding!

Lost Dog- At Emily’s Pond

Charlie is a 20 lb golden doodle that went missing around 10:30am on March 4 at Emily Steven’s park. He is not from this area. He is incredibly friendly and was last seen with a silver prong collar with no tag. He is microchipped.
If you have seen Charlie or have any information on him please call Josh at (404) 436-8411

Western Youth Championships Final Day!

Trail Creek will once again be a locus of Nordic racing today with hundreds gathering for the final day of racing in the Western Youth Championships.  Today’s technique is skating with the course including a high speed downhill run on the legendary Nordic X course!  Results from yesterday’s classic race are available here and today’s results will be posted on the event website as they become available.

Grooming for the course happened last night.  While the fields will be closed most of the day for the race, the woods trails are open to the public by accessing from the end of the old pass road.  No grooming has happened there this weekend, but skiing should be pretty good as no snow has fallen and conditions were mostly cloudy yesterday with moderate temperatures.

Moving forward, grooming will possibly be happening in the evening for the rest of the season depending on conditions.  Evening grooming results in really fast morning conditions, but all in all smoother tracks and some really sweet skiing when the temperature is just right, stay tuned for more info as the month progresses.

Groomer’s choice for today is for fun fast racing.

Shooting Star

Last Updated: 3/4

Grooming today (Thursday 3/4) will be ongoing through about 10 am, as a mechanical issue with the snowcat delayed our start. Overall, skiing should continue to be very enjoyable through this weekend with lots of sunshine and warmer temperatures in the forecast. The warm afternoon temps combined with cold overnight lows will begin to promote springtime conditions. Skiers will now encounter a hardpacked surface with icy sections and inconsistent classic track depths, as the grooming equipment struggles to cut through the evolving icier profile compared to the previous packed powder like snow. Typically, in the springtime, conditions will be icier/firmer in the morning, softer around lunchtime/early afternoon, and potentially slushy by late afternoon. Please, plan ahead and be prepared on warm days that trail conditions will be constantly changing throughout the whole day. Lastly, we finished the black sand application to the greens and a friendly reminder to always stay off these surfaces. Enjoy the skiing and soak up the sunshine! Next Update will be Monday 3/8.

Turpin Meadow Ranch

Last Updated: 3/7

While Turpin Meadow Ranch is officially closed, we would like to recognize some highlights from our perspective this winter:

  • all of the folks who came to Turpin to try Nordic skiing for their first time ever
  • all of the joy that was shared which inspired a new term for skis: “giggle sticks”
  • a strong interest and participation in our lessons and tours from the community
  • guests posting their adventures at Turpin on their social media
  • people flagging down the groomer to share their gratitude
  • and the biggest compliment of all is when folks tell their friends to go to Turpin “because it’s my favorite place to cross country ski!”

From all the Nordic team at Turpin, the managers, groomers, instructors and guides, we’d like to say thank you to the Nordic community who made this winter season so memorable. We are already looking forward to next winter and the opportunity to facilitate the ski adventure of your dreams.

I’ll try to finish grooming Yetis at some point today.
