TVTAP update: Remember your neighbors are using the trail too.

As an organization, we encourage people to get out on trails, to engage in healthy activity. We also build or facilitate the making of the winter trail system.

Along with trails and all the different types of users, whether we like it or not, comes conflict. TVTAP has often been asked to address who and how people should be on trails. We do not mandate who can and can’t use the trails. We don’t want to, either. That is up to the land management agency or landowner. As for how? Ultimately, that’s up to you, but we like to encourage people to use Leave No Trace principles. This is widely accepted among those who love and use the outdoors. This is a system of ethics, not laws. They apply widely across recreation use, but most of it is common sense and helps us all be good neighbors.

Skinny Skis updates – Banff Virtual Partnering with GTNPF

Proceeds to Support GTNPF’s Teton Crest Trail Renewal ProjectFebruary is typically Banff Film Festival month here in Jackson when we get to invite all of our friends in the community to join us down at the high school to watch some amazing films together. Obviously, this year is not a typical year! Hopefully, you have already heard that we’ve moved the festivities onto the web, so you can “virtually” enjoy the film festival in your PJ’s at home this year.

During the month of February, we will be donating all of the proceeds Skinny Skis earns from Banff Festival rentals to the Grand Teton National Park Foundation and their Teton Crest Trail Renewal Project. The project started last year with a focus of work getting done on Hurricane Pass. The upgrades will continue this summer, 2021, with projects along the south fork of Cascade Canyon and the first phase of improving the Paintbrush Divide. You can read more info on what they’re planning in 2021 further down in the newsletter.

Trail Creek Nordic

Last Updated: 2/4

Fun, And More Fun!

You just never know what kind of tracks you’ll find around Trail Creek after the Monday and Wednesday sessions; there are almost always moose, elk, squirrel and fox tracks, but the people tracks are sometimes the most interesting.  Coach Libby’s Teewinots pictured in the top image always make some really great tracks, but the crater holes discovered at the far end of the East Field really make one wonder what exactly was going on.  The story left by the tracks indicates that either the Lollipoppers, Teewinots, Devos, or possibly Juniors were diving head first down the steep slope and gloriously faceplanting into the bounteous powder, awesome tracks kids!

You can make your own awesome tracks if you make it out to Trail Creek today where the Pisten Bully has been hard at it, working on pretty much every trail.  The National Forest trails, Moose Loop, and the close field all received multiple passes with classic tracks, the other woods trails received skate only grooming although yesterday’s classic tracks had about an inch of snow that was mostly skied in by the end of grooming.  Armin’s and the East Fields did not receive classic grooming because of the wind but the skate grooming should hold through the day, all in all plenty of good skiing today!

Groomer’s choice for today is the National Forest trails.

Shooting Star

Last Updated: 2/1
The course is in great shape and the trails continue to firm up after the recent snow storms. Monday & Tuesday’s weather looks to promote ideal Nordic conditions, boasting lots of sunshine and warm temps. Outlook is calling for another active cycle of wintery weather beginning Wednesday and lasting through the weekend. Accumulations look to be on the light side, but skiers should anticipate a daily 1-3” of snow to fall on the track during the daylight hours with some possible drifting throughout this system. Overall, it should be another great week to get outside and go on a Nordic adventure.  Next Update will be Monday 2/8. Enjoy!

Grooming complete! Started with heavier Ginzu attachment. Worked well to set southern tracks but started bogging down with new snow. Needed to switch it out for the roller before going to the north loops (where the snow was deeper). Far from a perfect skiing surface, but beat down. Ready for the next storm!

Please do not park in the library parking lot. Please be sure to keep your dogs on a leash and to clean up after them.
