Also Happening Today: Intermountain Youth Championship Races

With support from the community, the Teton Basin Ranger District, Teton Valley Trails and Pathways, and the Jackson Hole Ski Club Nordic program, Grand Targhee Ski and Snowboard (GTSSF) is hosting over 230 regional athletes on March 1st and 2nd for the Intermountain Youth Championships, an annual three-race event for athletes 15 years old and younger. The weekend is a celebration of being part of a team, developing as athletes, having fun doing hard things, cross-country skiing, being on snow and the Nordic community.
To promote a positive race environment, the race course, which consists of the Yeti’s Loop will be closed to public skiing during the races today from 8am-4pm and tomorrow from 8am-2pm. Parking at Mike Harris will be reserved for race officials, team vehicles, and athlete drop off. Spectator parking is in Victor at the school at this address, a shuttle will be available to transport to and from the event.

Of course these dates are snow dependent so there is always a chance grooming ops might end early in some places. Whatever the case may be, please be sure to thank the groomers out there, they are working hard to keep your trails in good condition for as long as possible. Crust Cruising
When the days are this warm and the nights are this cold, the skiing can be so good! We have a window for crust cruising this weekend so here are some reminders of crust cruising etiquette to start the spring off right:
- Know where you are skiing and what kind of land it is (public or private and any special closures)
- If it is private land you need to seek landowner permission before heading out to ski. Even if you have had landowner permission in the past, it’s always a good idea to follow up with them.
- Understand winter range closures before skiing on public land (i.e. Teton Canyon has winter range closures off the groomed and designated trails).
- If you are skiing at the Alta Nordic Track or Teton Reserve Ski Track, please stay on the groomed trails. TVTAP is indebted to the local homeowners for allowing grooming around their homes. Homeowners have asked that skiers please not crust cruise at these locations and stay on the groomed tracks.
- Grand Teton National Park is a great place with wonderful views for crust cruising on public land!
- Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, and have fun out there!
