Spring in the Tetons

Spring in the Tetons offers residents a wide range of outdoor activity as the temps begin to rise and areas previously buried under snow throughout the winter months become more accessible. Locals are all too familiar with how the spring weather can offset motivation to get outside if we happen to be in a muddy or rainy stretch, so we here at JH Nordic bring you a comprehensive list of ideas of where to go to keep you propelled into the outdoors while we wait for the summer season to inch closer. For updates on area information, weather, and grooming updates and closures be sure to visit our spring report here.

Spring Skiing and Fat-biking

While the valley floor has melted out quite a bit there are still some areas where you can find some reasonable spring skiing and fat biking conditions. We recommend the following trails. Remember to keep it close to home, practice appropriate social distancing by keeping 6ft between you and other trail users, and wear a face mask or a buff if possible. This time of year requires bear spray to be apart of your adventure pack and don’t forget that avalanche danger is still a serious risk even with the warmer temperatures.

  • Trail Creek – B-T forest service trails only – please respect the end-of season closure for the JH Ski Club Trail Creek trails. Enter from the Old Pass Road parking lot, follow the summer trail toward Black Canyon. Last grooming of these trails was March 31st, so expect rough conditions. with the right timing, snow can be just soft enough, without being too soft.
