Another iconic Friday ski in Grand Teton National Park

Whether you are marking the end of a work week, the beginning of the weekend, or something in between, we hope you have an inspired Friday ski, fat bike, winter trail dog walk or snowshoe!

Fresh groomed corduroy on the park road in Grand Teton National Park won’t be replenished for too many more Fridays. But it should be there today!

Skate Ski Tip of the Day

From Virgia, who can ski forever, and coaches with Peak Performance.

Focus on planting poles closer to the body. Let the tips of fingers brush the sides of your pants. Especially in V2, every bit of energy saving is helpful. Think “I want my poles pushing directly behind” vs out to the side.

Go ski!

General Weather – love the cold nights

Although the forecast could change (will change?) I am thinking a good ski plan is to get out a lot this weekend and take the grey Monday as a rest day! See the full forecast on Mountain Weather.

What makes a good trail user?

Unbeknownst to the JHSC Devo team, cookies were waiting up the Old Pass Road on Wednesday’s adventure ski. Under a beautiful giant fir, each skier shared a thought on what makes a good trail user and skied off with a cookie. They may have been excited about the Newman-O’s, and getting to ski someplace new with their friends and coaches. As I listened to their answers and watched their faces, my hope in humanity got a little boost: all of these small skiers genuinely shared tips that rang true of how to be good trail humans. Nordic for life!

Share the trail & be nice

• Be nice to people on the trail.

• If you have to stop, don’t stop in the way of other skiers.

• If you are passing someone you can tell them which side you are passing on in a way that they can hear you but you are not yelling.

• Don’t take up the whole trail.

• Be respectful of other people and how they are on the trail.

• Give people space.

A couple thoughts on dogs

• Ask someone if you can pet their dog before petting or playing with their dog.

• Don’t leave stuff, like dog poop bags.

And one on snow

• Do what you can to help preserve the snow because, well, there isn’t very much and we all want to keep skiing!

Go have fun on your skis, snowshoes, fat bike or feet!
