“Today was especially fun because the famous Birkebeineren Stadium was still open to neighborhood skiers. One little girl was skiing home from Kindergarten with her Dad and wanted to race the waxtesters.”
While this image will lodge in my mind for all kinds of heartwarming inspiration, it was equally fun to scroll through the Instagram post and see the familiar face of Will Wicherski, JHSC Nordic Director. (Banner photo also flyingpointroad.com credit.) Will is there as the head of service staff. I will be watching posts for a photo of JHSC alum Lena Poduska who is racing as one of five women on the Junior World Team for the US!!!!! Wow.

Groomer Updates
Teton Pines
There is still some snow out here but we are unable to groom until we get cold temps and snow. There are a few decent areas on the track but lots of grass and pavement you have to navigate as well.
Punchcard and season pass holders please ski now because we are not sure what the next couple of weeks may bring. If you do ski, ski at your own risk. Early season conditions exist on our entire track.
Even though we had unprecedented weather this year we were still able to have good skiing the from late December through February. Many XC ski areas in the western US were barely able to open this season and some, not at all!
We will be in the shop from 9-1 this week. We will update you on skiing and shop hours as the week unfolds.

Grand Targhee
Tuesday grooming should be hold nicely until Thursdays groom. Check the GTR website for status updates.
Trail Creek
Grooming with a combination of the Husky and the Ginzu. Coverage is thicker in the forest, though East Fields still skiable too. The NWS hourly forecast is now calling for about 4 inches of snow by Friday afternoon.
Teton Valley Trails
Southern Valley – groomed for skate and classic. Note the new entrance groomed to Yeti Loop along the powerline road.
Teton Canyon – Groomer managing some ice with a bonus groom, check the current conditions before you head out.
Alta Nordic – partial groom, some sections not suitable for grooming and or have been reconfigured. Good skiing still.
Shooting Star Nordic
Today (March 4th) is the last morning that we’ll groom the driving range loop due to diminishing snow coverage. Skiers may continue to ski the range area after today, just know that there will no longer be enough snow to support grooming. Reminder that all other areas on the course is closed to any ski/Nordic activities.
Sidenote: beginning March 5th, GCM will be applying black colored sand on various locations throughout the golf course to assist with naturally melting snow. This process involves larger equipment transporting materials via existing trails, so please be aware of daily machinery usage on the track for the foreseeable future.
Longterm outlook for the possibility of reopening any trails remain bleak. Warm temperatures are to remain through the weekend, followed by rain and light snow showers next week. If both cooler temperatures and significant snowfall (12”+) return, then we’ll evaluate if grooming operations can return.

Moonlight Bike and Ski
As a prelude to the Togwotee Winter Classic fat bike ride, or a stand alone fun thing to do, head out the Deception Creek Trails on Togwotee Pass for a Friday evening bike or ski.
Togwotee Winter Classic
March 7, 2026
A not-for-profit fat bike event taking place on groomed snow and/or snowmobile trails at 8000′ to 9,600′ in elevation on the Continental Divide. The TWC goes way back in fat bike history as once the longest standing, contiguous fat bike race in the Lower 48. Registration is free but limited to 74 riders. Donations accepted.
Yellowstone Rendezvous Race

The 2026 Yellowstone Rendezvous Race is part of the American Ski Marathon Series – North America’s longest-running and largest citizen’s racing and touring series – that highlights long distance ski events throughout the country.
Run. Fat Bike. Ski.
13, 28 or 103 miles! March 13-15, 2026.
103 miles of winter wonderland, with over 9,000 ft elevation loss/gain. Self-sufficiency is key, as there are no drop bags, pacers, or cell service along the way. Instead, you’ll navigate your way through varied conditions and temperatures, with check points separated by upwards of 25 miles of challenging terrain.
