It’s About Time

Nordic Trail Report 3.8.26

Today, with the return of daylight savings, we are given a little extra light to play with. For winter trail lovers like us, this means more opportunities to squeeze in an after-work ski without a headlamp, a twilight lap, or a spontaneous spin on the trails before dinner. As the sun lingers a bit longer each evening it’s a perfect time to take advantage of the snow while it’s still here. Grab your gear, head out the door, and enjoy the daylight at the end of the day outside.

Tech Tips on Timing

Poling: If you liken the cycle of movement in skate or classic to how the secondhand travels around the clock face, then you can think of pushing on the poles for five seconds and resting for 55, rather than pushing for 30 and resting for 30. Quicker, high impulse pole push and leg push off movements create longer glide and allow more rest.

Skate Glide: Next time you’re skate skiing, try to count during your glide. After each push, silently count “one…two…three…” while on the gliding ski. If you don’t have enough time to count, the push off came too soon. Try letting the ski run a bit before stepping onto your next glide ski.

From Pam’s trip report it can be inferred that skiing on the inner park road will have wonderful conditions. On the Teton Valley side, Teton Canyon and Grand Targhee have been reliable with snow coverage as well.
