A Look Ahead At The Weather

While our time playing host to this high pressure system has been full of warmth, sun, and hopefully some great days out on the trails, this coming week will ideally flip our winter switch to “ON”. Beginning Wednesday, the Tetons are poised to see snow all the way through the weekend.

The forecasted snow would be very welcomed, as our early season snowpack and trail systems are growing thin through use and sun exposure. The precipitation would also assist the groomers in helping to establish a strong base for recreation throughout the entire season.

If you have any rituals or tricks to bring the snow, its time to implement them. For all of us.

Jackson Hole Nordic Recreational Masters Clinics

Hosted by Masters Coach Scott Horn and Jackson Hole Ski Club Nordic team coaches, the clinics are back for Season 3! There will be 8 clinics every other week from 11am-12:30pm. Starting on this Thursday, December 10th and continuing until March 18th, the clinics will alternate between skate skiing and classic cross-country.

Sign up for the full series and receive the latest JH Nordic buff. Or, you can attend on a drop-in basis and touch on the specific skills that suit you.

Work on your technique and form with professional tips and exercises from USSA certified coaches. Stay and ski all day with your clinic ski pass at Teton Pines Nordic center. There will be two coaches and 2 small groups per clinic, and plenty of outdoor space to stay socially distanced. Meet local nordic skiers, bring your friends and family.

We ask that everyone wear a mask or double buff and to be cognizant of their impact on others.

The designated portions of these roads now accommodate winter recreation, and the use of wheeled vehicles is prohibited for the season.

The 14-mile section of the Teton Park Road between the Taggart Lake Trailhead and Signal Mountain Lodge will be groomed approximately three times a week dependent on snow and weather conditions.

Fridays – Two lanes groomed Taggart to Signal Mountain
Sundays – Four lanes groomed Taggart to South Jenny Lake

Stay tuned for grooming start date.

Trail Creek Nordic

Last Updated: 12/6

Coach Will had a big group out early this morning for some technique training in the stadium and as demonstrated in the image above, they were doing a great job of enjoying Nordic skiing and doing so in a safe manner.  It’s really great that we are able to keep skiing in these challenging times.

The endless blue skies continue today as do the good skiing conditions.  Temps are remaining moderate and the snow is therefore being preserved nicely.  Today’s grooming covered almost all recently groomed trails and primarily served as a best line skate-groom.  Classic tracks would benefit from some fresh snow; however, forecasts for later in the week look promising!

Groomer’s choice for today is to keep on skiing safely!

Stilson and Game have been groomed with the snowmobile. Both still have very thin coverage with many uneven areas and are skiable- just not great. Cache creek has been groomed by friends of pathways. All other trails still need substantial snow until we can groom.

Teton Pines Nordic

Groomed daily and in good shape for both skate and classic skiing. Early season conditions exist in some parts. Enjoy the sunny Teton views early this week while you can before the snow arrives later in the week.

The course offers wide open views of the Tetons. Classic tracks are not yet set, but good early season conditions exist. The retail shop has Nordic rentals and Nordic ski clothing for both women and men.

The snow is excellent! Though it has been cold and dry, there is full coverage on the trails. You’ll find 2 well groomed, classic tracks (one on each side) and a newly refreshed skate lane in the middle of them. Watch for low snow hazards at the cattle guards.

Southern Valley Nordic

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday

Campground and Yeti’s loop received 3 passes with the Ginzu groomer and are set nicely. Both of these tracks are in good shape given these colder nighttime temperatures. Be aware of the ever increasing afternoon temperatures this coming week and plan accordingly for peak skate and classic conditions. The mid-afternoon snow can get very soft in sunlit areas. Enjoy the glide!
