Fat Pursuit Recap: 200k Winner Highlights from Fitzgerald Bicycles
Another Fat Pursuit in the books! What is Fat Pursuit? It’s a journey that few ultra-endurance athletes choose to challenge, experience and pursue. Formally it has been only open to fat bikes, but this year a handful of participants tested the 200k course on skis and foot, while the 60k course was open to bike, ski, and foot. The 200k and 200-mile Pursuits require complete winter bikepacking setups. While out in the remote backcountry of the Continental Divide and Yellowstone National Park’s backyard, Island Park, you must be completely self-sufficient and capable of making wise choices. There are aid stations and checkpoints, but a lot can happen in between them.
This year’s conditions were incredibly challenging and anyone who rode even a portion of it deserves praise. And those who finished, well they are beyond exceptional. To put it into perspective, 13 riders (12 men and 1 woman) started the 200-mile Fat Pursuit and one finished. His name is Thomas Miller and he finished in 65 hours and 25 minutes. Let that sink in...
