Nordic Elk!
Our resident elk herd is growing somewhat more comfortable sharing this beautiful valley with Nordic skiers and groomers. Even though they seem to really appreciate having some nicely groomed trails for their nightly forays, the first encounters of the season resulted in panicked explosions as most elk have never seen Nordic grooming equipment before. However, as the season as progressed, the elk much like their more photogenically famous neighbors residing in the elk refuge have grown somewhat accustomed to passing machinery and skiers.
Even though they are becoming habituated, they still don’t stand quite as readily as their more famous relatives. Today’s image was of part of a larger group of around 15. If you’d like to encounter them on your next Nordic ski, early morning is the best bet.
There is racing going on all over the place this weekend; there is a live webcam at West Yellowstone although it doesn’t seem to be displaying much race activity (IMD race results will be posted here), the Boulder Mountain Tour is happening right now, and Wyoming High School racers are skiing at Casper Mountain.

Saturday was a GORGEOUS day! Thanks for everyone coming up to ski and bike with us! All trails groomed as well as they have all season. They have been softening up a little in the afternoon with the warm but are still running fast. The fat bike single track has been running well also. Come see us Sunday before the week starts and the cold temps hit! We groom all trails daily. Bring your dog!

Winter Storm Watch for western Wyoming
February 1, 2020
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Upper Green River Basin Foothills from Sunday evening, February 2nd through late Monday night, February 3rd. Heavy snow, 5 to 10 inches accumulation possible. A cold front will move into northern Wyoming Sunday morning. It will drop southward to the Continental Divide around sunset Sunday and southwest Wyoming Sunday night. The precipitation is expected to occur behind the cold front. The heaviest snowfall is predicted to occur Sunday night into Monday. Daytime highs for Pinedale will be 30F on Sunday, 13F on Monday, and 9F on Tuesday. Nighttime lows will be 8F on Sunday, -11F on Monday, and -8F on Tuesday. For current road conditions, go to www.wyoroad.info.
Nordic: All trails above groomed this morning. Road and parking areas plowed. 18F degrees. There is a high school alpine ski race at White Pine today, so there will be more cars in the parking lot and more people on the hill. There are still numerous moose around – please control your dogs. Thank you for pitching the poo off the trails. Planning on getting the Golf Course groomed by noon today. Will do CCC trails tomorrow.
Fat Bike 1/30: Lower and upper Kelly Park single track have been groomed as of today. A good base is in place but remember with warmer temperatures adjust tire pressure accordingly to reduce chances of breaking through. Looks like a great weekend to get out and enjoy the wonderful Pinedale outdoors!
