Spread joy for winter trails.

We get people out on winter trails by providing comprehensive digital resources, hosting the annual Free Ski Day and being out on trail. Each year the website gets over 130,000 page views from over 40,000 users. All winter long we email the daily trail report to 1400 people at 7:30 in the morning. Over 500 people come celebrate winter trails, public lands and the Nordic community at the free ski day at Turpin Meadow Ranch. And this past winter we connected face to face on trails with over 300 people, sharing trail etiquette tips and tricks and, of course, where you might want to ski tomorrow.

Wildflowers are still popping!

Wildflowers at 9700 feet in the Tetons - August is a fantastic time to be in the mountains

It does not take much of a climb to get into flower country. This past week flowers were still abundant in the Tetons (photos around 9200 – 9800 feet). Go someplace new or return to a favorite trail while the colors are varied and rich.

Local partners have a variety of volunteer opportunities to support trails, and there is still time to lend a helping hand (or put it on your summer calendar for next year!). Whether you want to spend one day or an entire season, there are lots of ways we can give back to trails.

Safety tips for being out in the Tetons in August

Fire restrictions are in place. Use water liberally!

WYOMING: Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for Teton Interagency Dispatch Area in Effect Starting July 22, 2026

The Teton Interagency Dispatch Area includes Grand Teton National Park, the Bridger-Teton National Forest, and the National Elk Refuge. The fire danger rating for the Teton Interagency Dispatch area remains at “high,” meaning wildfires can start easily and spread quickly.

Please be a BFF of the BTNF and recreate responsibly.

IDAHO: Stage 1 fire restrictions will be in place on federal, state and private forest and rangelands, roads, and trails, situated in Bannock, Bear Lake, Bingham, Bonneville, Butte, Caribou, Clark, Franklin, Fremont, Jefferson, Madison, Power, Oneida, and Teton counties.

Carry Bear Spray, and Know How to Use It.

A reminder that this small can can have a big impact…carrying bear spray, and knowing how to use it, is a great idea. And if you are coming from out of town, or have friends and family coming and need a few more canisters, you can rent extras at Teton Backcountry Rentals.
