Winter Wildlife Closures Begin in BTNF December 1st

Photo: Nick Sulzer/Buckrail

Starting December all winter closure areas are in effect in The Bridger-Teton National Forest, Gros Ventre Road is the only exception with closures stating Dec. 15.

Please be mindful of winter closure areas. These closures protect the habitats of already stressed wildlife by providing a retreat where they don’t have to spend extra energy they can’t afford.

Leash requirements are also in effect in areas like Cache Creek trailhead, Teton Pass parking area, Putt-Putt Trail, and Game Creek. These rules keep wildlife safe as well as decrease user conflicts.

Shred the Spread of COVID19

Regrettably, Jackson Hole is in serious COVID code red.
We remind everyone to take extra care to wear a mask, keep over 6 ft apart, stay outside, stay away from indoor public places, follow and respect community precautions, stay home if you are sick, and reach out if you need care or assistance

You’re Going to Like This!
About 2 inches of glorious snow graced us overnight, returning Trail Creek’s extensive trail network back to the “winter wonderland” category today.  The Pisten Bully made quick work of the new addition, making double passes on almost all trails with more classic tracks than ever before.  While we’re still not quite to the nearly perfect mid-winter conditions we often experience, if you are lucky enough to make it out for a ski today, you should have a good time.

Stilson and Game have been groomed with the snowmobile. Both still have very thin coverage with many uneven areas but are skiable just not great. Cache creek has been groomed by friends of pathways. All other trails still need substantial snow until we can groom.

We will have skiing available but be prepared for early season conditions. Snow coverage is thin in some areas. We hope to be able to remain open for skiing until we receive more snow, but the forecast is looking pretty sunny over the next 10 days.

Skate: Set | Classic: Not Set
The south and middle loops are groomed for skating. Probably about 3 or 4k total. North loops are not set. It’s thin but not bad. Some grass poking up here and there. We have a new loop out there but you will need to sidestep through the ditch to get to it. Still lots of weeds on that one. Might want to wait for more snow to give it a try.

It is good to have snow in the Valley! We are monitoring the forecast and working hard to get the grooming equipment ready for action. We plan to begin the scheduled grooming season on December 1st. There is a chance we might be able to get things groomed ahead of schedule, so stay tuned.

The tracks are becoming more leveled with every grooming session. There are a few sticks and limbs sticking up, be aware. Enjoy the whitetrack.
