Annual Cross Country Ski Areas Association Conference

April 7 – 8, 2020

Please join CCSAA at its Annual Conference April 7 & 8 at Bogus Basin in Boise, ID. The Conference is a great opportunity to not only listen to relevant speakers within our cross country community, but to spend time with other owner/operators of cross country ski areas, to get some great spring skiing and share ideas of what works and does not work.

This is an excellent forum to engage with all aspects of Cross Country – Nordic professionals, best practices, industry trends.

Leap Day!

An extra day and even on a Saturday! Leap into action and capitalize on what looks to be a grand day and make sure you have time for a great Nordic ski.

The state championships are in action as this grooming report is being posted. There was lots of good news yesterday from Pahaska Teepee Resort with three males and two females from Jackson topping the results of the first day’s freestyle racing. Kate Brigham and Natalie O’Brien took the number one and two female spots while Elijah Weenig, Mason Wheeler, and Samuel Johnson took the top three spots in the male division. Full results can be viewed at the High Plains Nordic site.

At Trail Creek today the Ginzu groomer was hard at it early this morning making sure that there will be plenty of good skiing. Our 2003 Pisten Bully is once again having some issues so for the time being grooming will primarily be with the Ginzu Groomer.

As of 9 AM the temperature was a balmy 0ºC/32ºF with mostly sunny skies and calm winds. Skate lanes are quite fast and while the Ginzu corduroy is not quite as photogenic as what the Pisten Bully can do, should actually skate quite nicely today. There is a bit of glazing in some of the classic tracks and some sections have significant moose or elk damage, but most are in good shape and the sunny tracks will ski very nicely as the day warms.

Groomer’s choice for today is the sunny fields.

Trails are very firm and skiing fast. Saturday was another beautiful day of sunshine and Teton views. All trails were groomed again this morning and the restaurant is back open! Come enjoy the day with us, only 2 Sundays left before we close.

The levee is groomed and in Ok shape. The classic track is shallow because of how firm the track is right now. Stilson will be done around 9:45. The school fields are groomed and in good shape.

The track is skiing great after some intensive grooming was warranted this past week to smooth things out from Monday’s wind event. Look for more enjoyable weather through Saturday afternoon followed by snowier conditions on Sunday. Have fun!

Skier Update: Trail is ‘ groomed’ – not perfectly smooth corduroy, more “flattened and rolled”. Occasionally, there is a classic cross-country track, sometimes not. Certainly a nice hour and bit around the golf course with great views, a fun place to ski if you are looking for a new flat, groomed trail to try out.

Nordic: Blue sky, wind finally settled down a little bit, -2F degrees. All trails above groomed this morning except for Flatline and Heart Attack. At least 2″ of new, wind-blown snow from yesterday. Have a great day!
