Make Better for Informed Decisions about winter back country activities in GTNP- on Nordic skis too!
A new press release reminding BC recreational skiers of all kinds to be informed.
Backcountry recreationists are encouraged to visit the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center website to make better informed decisions about winter backcountry activities in Grand Teton National Park. The avalanche center website includes a new weekly discussion that highlights backcountry conditions in the park.
With the support of the Grand Teton National Park Foundation, a National Park Service snow ranger is assessing the snowpack in the park and making professional-level observations throughout the park. This information is being shared weekly on the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center’s website and complements the weekly summary for the forecast region.
The snow ranger assists the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center with daily forecasts, maintains weather stations, educates backcountry users and collects snowpack observations, as well as assists National Park Service rangers with backcountry patrols.
Visit the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center web site at www.jhavalanche.org for the most up-to-date information regarding backcountry and avalanche conditions in Grand Teton National Park and throughout the Teton Range.

Daily Grooming Today
Keep Looking Up!
In the past month a lot of snow has accumulated in the forest canopy such as in the image above and as we move forward we need to remind skiers to keep looking up as one never knows when such deadly accumulations of snow might just let loose. We must never forget the poor skier Evets Naws who bit the dust in 2016.
On the more serious side, it is a truly great day to ski, if you can avoid the snow which is truly falling from the trees today. The 11:30 AM temperature is just above freezing with calm winds and cloudy skies.
Today’s grooming was a complicated mix of Pisten Bully skate and classic grooming with the result being that pretty much every trail has nice skate lanes and classic tracks.
Don’t forget the Spud Chase over the hill tomorrow; registrations need to be in before 6 PM today.
Groomer’s choice for today is Armin’s.

Nordic: Half Moon Tie-In, Kelly Park, Kelly Tie-In, Upper and Lower Surveyors, Moose Ridge, Tree Loop, Powerline, Old Road Trail, Aspen, and Looney Lane all freshly groomed this morning. Also did the CCC trails and Golf Course. Lots of good skiing today and sun shining right now.
Fat Bike 1/10: The High School Ski Race starts at noon in Upper Surveyor Park today. Mass start, should be fun to watch. Freshly groomed this morning for both classic and skating are Half Moon Tie-In, Kelly Park, Kelly Tie-In, Upper & Lower Surveyor, Moose Ridge, Tree Loop, Powerline and Old Road Trail. Aspen and Looney Lane are flat groomed. Cold this morning, -10F degrees, now is 10F degrees. Couple inches of fresh snow this morning. Golf Course and CCC trails should be in pretty good shape. Sure do appreciate folks cleaning up after their pets. Still a number of deer and moose around – please keep pets under control. Saw a herd of elk on the way up this morning, but they are not on the trails yet.
