Whatever you choose to do today, get outside and play

There are plenty of groomed trails and snow off-piste that you won’t have to travel far to enjoy the sunshine today. Conditions are great for all modalities of human powered winter travel. Hopefully you can get outside, maybe with a friend or loved one, and be filled with astonishment.

Trip Reports

Imagine yourself and some friends out for a jaunt along the base of the Tetons or in a forested area draped in snow. The sun is shining, your laughter and bird songs are the only sounds around, your heart is thumping gently and your taste-buds delight in the awesome snack you packed. Recently some of our community members didn’t just imagine this, they got out and did it. And so can you! Check out the following trip reports from Phelps Lake and the Granite Canyon Trailhead.

An outing to Phelps Lake on Saturday 1/10/26, photo from Karen D.

According to Karen D. “The Nordic trail from Granite Canyon Trailhead to Phelps Lake in Grand Teton National Park is in excellent condition these days! The snow is soft and the ski track quite lovely!  Suggestions include the route paralleling the stream – which includes one of the most photogenic bridges – and then to the lake.  Out and back works well.  The lake was not frozen solid enough to ski across on Saturday.”

With no new snow in the forecast skier tracked trails should be easy to follow if you want to avoid breaking trail. If you’re into the adventure of off track the snow should be set up nicely that it won’t be too excruciating to make your own.

Expect more snow, plenty of sun, and many smiles on your next outing. Photo from 1/5/26 from Karen D.

Fat Biking at its Finest

Fat biking is an amusing way to get out on hard packed trails, great exercise, and great fun!

Friends of Pathways grooms more than 12 miles of winter single track trails in the Cache Creek area on an as-needed basis – not on a specific schedule. On the Teton Valley side TVTAP takes care of many miles of single track at the Southern Valley Trails.

Need a bike? Check out our resources page to connect with local professionals who can set you up with gear rentals and advice on where to ride. You can even find fat bike tours there too! Rentals are available from:

Wondering when single tracks were last packed down? Use this JH Nordic map to see current trail conditions. Click around and explore more winter!

It’s a gorgeous day to get outside with friends, no matter what sport you choose.

Updates from the Groomers

This section is intended to give you a snapshot of grooming operations around Jackson Hole and Teton Valley. For a complete up to the minute report please consult www.jhnordic.com/grooming

Game Creek

Parks and Rec planned to start grooming Game Creek today around 5:30 am with a snow machine, not the PistenBully.

Emily’s Pond Levee will likely be groomed today as well, conditions dependent.

Teton Pines Nordic

Chaulky snow equals a great track! Skate skiing should be awesome at Teton Pines. The classic is good but more snow is needed to be able to do much with it.

They have some great deals in the shop on demo/rental gear as well as some closeout retail skis, boots and clothing.

Trail Creek Nordic

With snow conservation a top most priority, Monday’s grooming ended up being the Husky on the Close Field, up Grunt, out to Moose Loop and Armin’s, and then back to the Close Field.  Fresh classic tracks were set on Armin’s and Moose Loop. Classic tracks in the Close Field were reset yesterday and still skiing nicely. The Ginzu was called into action on most Forest Service trails.

Shooting Star

Shooting Star is a great place to ski near Teton Village AND you can exercise your dog there too. A membership or season pass to the Nordic Area is required.

Trails will continue to be groomed as needed using the snowmobile until more snowfall. Reminder early season conditions persist with inconsistent coverage. Skiers may encounter snowmobile and skid-steer track markings on the trails as we need to use the track for transporting snow removal equipment.

TVTAP Trails

Teton Reserve and Teton Canyon were last groomed 1/12/26 for both skate and classic.

There is a “Nordic Nights” event happening this evening at the Southern Valley Trails.

Come race in the Teton Ridge Classic!

Saturday, Jan 31

Classic skiing at it’s finest!

For the last 2 decades the Teton Ridge Classic (TRC) has been one of the premier classic events in the region. Last year we moved to a new venue that is perfect for classic skiing. The start and finish are on a private ranch where we can all gather post-race to swap stories, refuel, and hand out awards.

For 2026 we have a kids 1/2km and 2km. There are also 8km, 14km, and 28km distances. Course maps
