Events to Meet New People and Enhance Ski Skills This Week

This is a wonderful time of winter because daylight is hanging around noticeably a little longer and schedules tend to be more routine. This week there are a couple of opportunities to add something refreshing to your evening through two different ski series being offered in Jackson Hole and Teton Valley. Both are a great way to meet new potential ski friends, have some fun, and enhance your skills!

Happening today, January 28, at Stilson in Wilson, WY from 4:30PM-6PM is a classic ski lesson perfect for beginners aiming to progress to an intermediate level. This collaboration between Peak Performance and Teton County/JH Parks & Recreation is a great way to connect with your community, build your confidence on the trails, and enjoy a fun and supportive atmosphere over consecutive days. Sign up here.

Happening tomorrow, January 29 at Sherman Park in Victor, ID starting at 7PM is the first night of the SheJumps and Teton Nordic Ski School fun & social Nordic Ski Series for girls & women. Skate and classic skiing is welcome. The session will start with a tip of the day that you can focus on while you glide along and meet other participants and future ski partners. Each session will be 1.5 to 2 hours long.

Trip Report: Shadow Mountain BC Nordic Ski

Photos and report submitted by Nancy L.

Shadow Mountain is always an epic BC Nordic outing. Rising 1700 feet above the valley floor Shadow Mountain offers some of the most stunning views of the central Tetons on every switchback. On Sunday we experienced a brisk start with cold temps and a North wind, but soon we were climbing uphill and things warmed up nicely until the windy summit.

See if you can spot our friend Tom on the trail in the above photo… Because this trail is located on the Bridger-Teton National Forest our friends could bring their dog. On the way down we passed 2 friendly, courteous fat bikers who worked hard for the uphill but going down looked like they had a lot of fun.

The fresh powder snow beside our uphill track made for soft descending. Some people in our group used skins to give their uphill climb more grip.

Check out the Shadow Mountain Trail Page to see the trail description, where to access, and elevation profile. Click on “Allow My Location” to track your location and progress on the trail. And don’t forget to share your trip report with trailconditions@jhnordic.com
