Great Conditions in the Park

Thanks for the update Charlotte, and a big thanks to the GTNP groomer and GTNP foundation for underwriting this fabulous grooming!

Our Number One Resident?
What may you ask does a small rodent have to do with your Trail Creek Nordic experience? Not a huge amount but they are a fascinating local resident and if you are lucky, you might spot one dashing across a trail before diving into the snow again where they spend their winters burrowing along the ground through the snowpack. Where you are most likely to spot the evidence of such creatures is in the numerous craters that appear in our trails during the early season that have been excavated by coyotes or foxes in search of tasty morsels (weasels burrow right in after them). While the Grooming Department makes no claims of expertise in the Order Rodentia, the best guess of what this common resident is called would be the meadow vole or Microtus pennsylvanicus. If any of you out there have a greater knowledge, a correction would be much appreciated.
Focusing on above snow activities you will find lots of great skiing today at Trail Creek. The dry weather continues although a flake or two has fallen and we might pick up to an inch in the next 24 hours. The temps have moderated slightly to -12ºC/10ºF as of 10:45 AM with cloudy skies and calm conditions.
Today’s grooming was a Pisten Bully best line skate touch up of most trails. While we are still early season with a little brush showing through, all in all both classic tracks and skate lanes are pretty nice.
Groomer’s choice for today is the speedy run, Suicide.
