Happy Hour - Mike Harris CampGround to ID/WY Stateline

Teton Valley

Fee: $0.00

Access:

Located 4 miles east of Victor, ID, off ID Hwy 33 (west of Teton Pass, the ID Hwy continuation of WY Hwy 22).

Description:

Happy Hour is predominantly a 24' groomed fat bike trail that spans from Mike Harris Campground to the WY/ID state line. This trail offers a scenic journey through spruce-fir forest along Trail Creek, with minimal traffic, especially on weekdays. The grooming of the trail is maintained by the Caribou-Targhee US Forest Service team.

Parking: Available at the access point to Mike Harris Campground at the junction of Harris and Trail Creeks or the plowed pullout along the highway, based on conditions.

Skiing Experience: This trail is ideal for fat biking and classic cross-country skiing. It offers a serene winter experience in a forested setting.

Directions:

Beginnings: Start by heading down the summer gravel campground road. Cross Harris Creek to the south and continue southeast along Trail Creek. At the bend in the campground road (mile 0.3), proceed southeast along Trail Creek, following a marked summer trail (an old forest 2-track).

Uphill Stretch: After approximately 1.25 miles, the trail begins a moderate climb up an unnamed side drainage. The maximum gradient is 10%, covering a distance of around 15 yards.

Views: Just before the descent to the state line parking lot (approximately mile 1.75), you emerge onto a ridge with lovely views to the south, gazing towards the flanks of Mt. Oliver.

Return: The trail leads from the Mike Harris trailhead to the Wyoming state line. Beyond this point, the grooming ends. However, a recently constructed bridge enables passage over Trail Creek. The route can continue along Trail Creek and Hwy 22 to Trail Creek Campground. An underpass is slated for construction at this location during the summer of 2022, which may provide a connection to the newly constructed Centennial Pathway.

Winter Grooming: This trail is groomed and maintained by the Caribou-Targhee US Forest Service team but the grooming ends at the Wyoming state line. Check conditions with local authorities for the latest updates.

A Note for Dog Owners: Dogs are not allowed on this trail from December 1st to April 15th.
